Lotus 99T Honda Turbo F1 (1987)
Honda V6 turbo engine, 1492cc and 900hp
The '87 season started off hopefully for Senna, as he had convinced Lotus (with threats of exiting) to switch engine suppliers.
But with the incorporation of the Japanese Honda in the team new problems appeared. On the one hand, the adaptation of the chassis to the new powertrains was not a bed of roses, and on the other, the premature introduction of the first active suspensions produced enormous headaches.
The championship ended with a third place and two victories. What might seem like a great campaign to anyone, for Ayrton it was a real failure. A new course had to be taken.
