Last Sunday, December 28, the BMW E24 Spain club, in collaboration with Clásicos de Navalcarnero, paid tribute to the BMW E24, the luxurious coupe with which BMW started the series 6 saga. 2015 is the 1975th anniversary of its presentation, carried out in November XNUMX.
The event took place at the fairgrounds of the Madrid town of Navalcarnero, next to the bullring and about 30 kilometers from the capital, coinciding with the monthly meeting of classic cars that has been convened every fourth Sunday of the month in this same site.
The bad weather with which the day began, with a lot of cold, wind, cloudy skies and intermittent showers, did not prevent the owners and fans of the model from attending the event, although it is true that it negatively influenced the attendance of the public and of participants to the monthly rally cars.
Still, we can talk about the success of the call. In Navalcarnero, up to 17 sharks could be seen, nickname with which the E24s are known throughout the world for their peculiar nose shape - although in Spain with that name we identify more the legendary Citroen DS.

Almost all the European variants of the German model manufactured over a long period were represented: from 1976 to 1989. Although we have commented that its presentation was in 1975, its production did not officially begin until 76; in the previous year only a pre-series of 17 units was made.
Attendees began to arrive at 10 in the morning, parking their vehicles in a semicircle at the meeting point. There they remained exposed until approximately 14.30:XNUMX p.m., when most of them went to a restaurant in the municipality to say goodbye to the year at a fraternity meal.

To the tribute participants came from different provinces. Obviously, the largest crowd was from Madrid, due to its proximity to the meeting point and because it is also where more units are located, but there were brave people who arrived from Guadalajara, San Sebastián, Granada and Seville.
The secret lies in the convening power of the BMW E24 Spain Club and, of course, the good vibes that is breathed among its members, who never disappoint when they go to each and every one of the "kedadas" which have enough pull even among owners of other classic BMW models.
Distinguished guests
In the center of the exhibition, a carpeted area in BMW Motorsport colors was set up, displaying three white models representing each of the three production phases of the first six series: a "pre" 628CSI from 1980, a "post" 635CSI Automatic from 1985 and a "repost" M635CSI from 1987. He accompanied them in the VIP area one of the very rare examples of the Alpina B7 Turbo in black, which was the center of interest of all those who knew the exclusivity and benefits of this unit.
In addition to the seventeen protagonists, other models of the Bavarian brand attended, such as a 2002 Touring, some series three E30s and a few examples of the successor to the E24, the series eight E31, among which stood out a beautiful 850CSI and a magnificent Alpina B12.
The tribute concluded with a formal ceremony, in which a councilor from the Navalcarnero town hall, in the company of the organizers of the market and the monthly concentration of classics in his municipality, gave Mr. Diego González, president of the E24 Club, a nice I remember that it symbolized the 40th birthday of his talismanic model.
