McLaren MP4 / 7 Honda F1 (1992)
Honda V10 engine, 3493cc and 770cv
The 1992 campaign was very difficult. The technical innovations introduced by Williams in its FW 14s in 1991 paid off this year: the semi-automatic transmission and active suspensions left the rest of the competition behind in a stroke.
The dominance was overwhelming and Mansell was proclaimed world champion with five races remaining on the calendar, something absolutely unusual. Senna was only able to win twice thanks to his genius. His strong point, the pole positions, were reduced to only one throughout the season.
In addition to the comments, the fact that the Japanese giant Honda decided to leave Formula 1 the following year, dragged by the global economic crisis, also had a noticeable influence. The millionaire investments ceased and with it the development of the single-seaters, just the opposite of what happened to Williams with Renault.
Prost had taken it off that year in sports, but the work of thriving and intriguing in the offices continued to do so masterfully, so that he finally managed (thanks to the support of Renault) to finally sign for Williams for the following season. He stated in the contract that the team could not count on Senna's services for a minimum period of one year, leaving the Brazilian in a very compromised situation for 1993.
