Want Steve McQueen's Porsche 911 Turbo?

The well-known actor Steve McQueen's fondness for automobiles is well known; But this 911 Porsche 1976 Turbo that will be auctioned next August is not just another ultra-machine from his well-known collection, rather it was one of his last acquisitions before he died of that fateful mesothelioma, a form of lung cancer probably due to asbestos to which the actor was exposed during his stint in the Navy.

Its current owner, Mike regalia, which has already owned the odd ex-racing car of The King of Cool, as the actor was also known, will proceed his auction during the next days August 13 to 15 in Monterrey, California. Looks like back in 2008 Mike was able to buy this Porsche Turbo 930 so special for very little money: "It was nothing planned, but let's just say it fell into my hands at the right time." And it is that 6 or 7 years ago the classic 911s, even those of this caliber, were not priced as high as they are today.

Custom Porsche 911 Turbo

Steve McQueen had in his possession during his successful career some of the greatest automobiles and motorcycles of his time: from a tremendous Jaguar XKSS, which was nothing more than a stratospheric Jaguar D-Type competition slightly conditioned for use on the road, to an AC Cobra, passing by several Triumph motorcycles, a very elegant Ferrari 250 GT Lusso or even a Porsche 917. Nothing ... Little thing.

But let's go back to the quasi-flaming Porsche 911 Turbo that concerns us, because it is not just any Carrera: With frame 9306800408 and wearing a curious and special color Slate Gray, this special order of McQueen the Stuttgart brand was fitted with a three-liter boxer block with turbo and without intercooler capable of generating about 250 hp, which was not bad for a road car in 1976. But its origin is not only recognized by the color, since that if you look at your personalized license plate you can read "MCQN930" or, what is the same, McQueen's 930.

racing is life

Wondering why the Hollywood star chose that color? We don't really know, but it probably has something to do with how hard to see at night. The Nine Eleven it also has a button on its dashboard to switch off the taillights ... Let's just say Steve really liked that thing about give life Mulholland Drive (a well-known Los Angeles mountain road) and the Police not so much ...

But leaving aside the hypothetical persecutions and other fights with justice, Steve McQueenBesides being one of the most important actors of his time, he also did good things. That was the case with the founding of boys republic, a school for troubled children in Chino, California, a school for which part of the profits from the sale of this Porsche with so much history.

Being a millionaire and buying all the cars in the world sounded difficult, so becoming a motorist journalist and driving them for free seemed more tangible ... As well as romantic. My greatest triumph has been being able to dedicate myself to cars from many points of view: journalism, organization of events and commercial training. I love my work life!
