Luxury scrap never melts

lamborghini tractor

Yes, luxury scrap never melts! Sure, as long as someone is able to go back in time through it. And that happens to Pedro, who with his skill and patience recovers part of the history of our agricultural mechanization ...

[dropcap] H [/ dropcap] about ten years ago I saw it for the first time. He was in a lot partially covered by snow; It seemed abandoned, I stopped the car and was nosing around what my imagination saw as a recovered Civil War vehicle converted to a tractor. Its chains reminded me of a Fiat Ansaldo tank of those that participated in the fight, but I soon realized that the machine in front of me was narrower; also the armor that covered the front was from a tractor.

Then I told myself that it was possibly some tracked vehicle to transport artillery pieces in the front. Giving my imagination, that these struggles are very good for me, I came to the conclusion that, at the time, a craftsman had turned it into a tractor, and with the passage of time, some visionary recovered it from the scrap metal. The truth is that with these reasons my curiosity of the moment was satisfied.

[your_quote]Pedro had decided to return it to a useful life, but the truth is that these projects have no date ...[/ su_quote]

Whenever I passed by, that little tractor kept capturing my attention; and one fine day, the little tractor disappeared. About eight years passed, when a friend informed me that a gentleman from his town had restored a tractor from when the war. I was glad that in these parts people began to sensitize themselves to luxury junk, and I told myself that when I could I would dedicate some time to it.

Although I knew perfectly well that until the end of the XNUMXs there were no tractors in the area, I have always been interested in stationary engines, tractors and all old mechanical gadgets, especially farm machinery. But in the background: My attention has always been largely monopolized by motorcycles, airplanes, and vintage cars.

It's a Lamborghini tractor!

One day I met Pedro, and then I met again with that little tractor that years ago stoically suffered its abandonment under the snow. Pedro is a very kind man; To my interest, he went out of his way to explain the entire process he went through to make the Lamborghini useful again. I said to myself, I already know something else, which is a Lamborghini tractor. And after opening his computer, he showed me the entire process of his work in photographs. The story was very interesting to me, so much so that I decided to share it with you; I trust you like it.

The tractor was abandoned on a farm that was sold to build a housing estate. Pere, Pedro's son, noticed him; from its appearance it was in a condition for casting. However, Pere imagined him tilling his fields again… It is clear that Pere has a lot of imagination.

After a pleasant treatment, the tractor came to his house and, as it mattered little that it was abandoned for a longer time, he stayed at the door; And that's how I met him Pedro had decided to return it to a useful life, but the truth is that these projects have no date. At the end one good day the illusions of recovering the Lamborghini began to materialize. At first glance, the rocker arm covers were missing, water had entered the injectors, there were needles in all corners and when they opened the crankcase plug, a stream of water came out; fortunately the oil had risen to the crankshaft and did not pass there.

Nameplate, a whole Lamborghini!

The pump and cylinder heads were removed from the two cylinders, and miraculously despite many years of neglect, the two pistons came loose with some ease. With a good deal of ingenuity Pedro coupled a reduction to an electric motor, and this reduction to the end of the crankshaft. Then he made a fifty percent oil and diesel mixture and started the electric motor. The crankshaft woke up and the pistons began to go up and down. Thus, it spent twenty-four hours running at no load, the oil and diesel mixture was changed a few times and, when it came out clean, it was filled again with oil and rolled again with the electric motor.

The pump was disassembled, cleaned and reconditioned; a dynamo could not be obtained and it was replaced by a 2CV alternator that did the job better. The starter motor was repaired, the injector lines were built from a Mercedes truck ... Anyway, that everything was made at home, resorting to scrap material and recovering the original parts.

The clutches were rebuilt, as well as the gearbox. As it was being assembled, the pieces were painted; the hours invested were never calculated, so that! but you can imagine that they were those of many watches. In the end it started up, everything worked. Then began the conditioning of the trailer to transport it, the repair of the hydraulics for the farm implements, and at this point I will tell you that they had to be done for this tractor.

Of course Pedro made them from his ingenuity and parts he recovered from scrap metal. In the end, the tractor was operational and with it the vineyard was cultivated that year. Over time, more tools were made and currently it performs all the tasks for what was manufactured in its day.

One tractor, three fans

It is curious that three generations converge around this tractor: Pedro, his son Pere and the grandson Iván, who despite his young age is already capable of handling it under the custody of his father; But the most enviable thing is that all three are enthusiastic about recovering that agricultural machinery that more than sixty years ago began to mechanize the Spanish countryside. And now I will tell you how it is handled:

The start-up on the day we decided to take the photographs was immediate; the engine, after the start-up gasps, was working normally, a gear was entered and it was rolling in a straight line. The tractor has three clutches, namely: one that disconnects the engine from the gearbox as in any other tractor and two more operated by two levers on both sides of the driver that disconnect the traction of the chains.

If you want to turn to the right, actuate the clutch lever on that side and vice versa if the turn is to the left. If you want to make a tighter turn, you simply use the foot brake on the part you want to turn towards.

Although it seems complicated, it must be very simple, because during the photo session I checked how the chains passed where the driver wanted. It is very manageable it seems that Ferruccio Lamborghini designed it mainly to work the vineyards of Tuscany ...

The size is smaller than it seems; long we measure 197 cm. without implements and the total width of the outer edge from chain to chain is only 80 cm. Its power is sufficient at 2.200 rpm., It yields 30 hp and it should not consume much since it is powered by an air-cooled two-cylinder engine.

The gearshift has eight relationships, four long and four short that we could call reducer. Trying to document myself about the Lamborghini I have had occasion to verify the stories that are woven around this little chain tractor; so much so that I have decided to leave this space to the enthusiast who feels interested.

And in line with this topic I will tell you that there is a page on the net with the participation of many fans, and that upon discovering that we follow the line of other countries in relation to the interest of old agricultural machinery I have decided to tell you on another occasion. tractor stories.
