After years of preparation, the documentary has finally been released Road to Le Mans, which is about how the Hollywood star Michael Fassbender went on to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The German performer, born in 1977, began his preparation to race at the Circuit de la Sarthe in 2018. That year, another actor, in this case the American Patrick Dempsey, put him in contact with Porsche, a brand with which he himself had competed in the test three times. In fact, in 2015 he finished second on the podium in the GTE Am category. Let us remember that also Paul Newman ran the legendary endurance test, or Pink Floyd drummer Nick Manson.
Fassbender, who had always been a fan of cars and racing, then began hard training, learning to drive racing cars. Always with Porsche, he rose through different categories, competing in the Porsche Racing Experience, the Porsche Sports Cup and, to top it all off, the European Le Mans Series (ELMS). Like a good actor, The cameras accompanied him throughout the journey showing the hardness of the process.
The German interpreter, famous for movies like Prometheus o X-Men, he almost put his acting career on hold to focus on this new challenge. Furthermore, although there were bad moments, Fassbender never gave up, and allowed the cameras to record them without protest, which makes Road to Le Mans a really interesting documentary.
A COMPLICATED DEBUT
In the year 2022, Michael Fassbender finally managed to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time. Unfortunately, he was involved in a series of accidents that did not undermine his firm will to continue competing. At least his team was able to complete the test, although in 16th place in the GTE Am category.
For centennial edition, the German arrived much more prepared. In fact, managed to ride under 4 minutes, a lap time 4 seconds below that achieved the previous year. On this occasion, he was accompanied by the Austrian Richard Lietz, official Porsche driver, and the Estonian Martin Rump.
Road to Le Mans, 90 minutes long, traces Fassbender's career with Porsche, from 2018 to 2023. It is the culmination of the series on YouTube, which has generated a cumulative 100 million views with its 33 episodes, over four seasons. Here you have the documentary so you can enjoy it.
