Panda Raid, into the desert - Part 2

The tide was low and I discovered an immense beach with the sand hard enough to support the weight of our Pandas, although in some places with the passage of cars it was drying and softening and some had problems. The vehicles and staff of the organization were in charge of directing us, indicating the steps between stones and helping those who remained to get out.

We completed the first 12 kilometers of one way and we were grouped to wait for the rest. An accident of a Panda without major consequences somewhat clouded the happiness that we were overwhelmed by having overcome the entire route and delayed regrouping.

The tide was beginning to rise and our little cars were sinking into the sand. The organization promptly cleared the beach and started groups of 10 cars that traveled the remaining 15 kilometers enjoying the scenery and driving on this type of road.

We crossed the finish line congratulating each other, satisfied with the work done. We were lining up on the beach and taking photos, hugging new friends. We say goodbye to the members of the organization, the medical team, the team that made the photo and video report, the mechanical team. Of all. To all: From here I want to thank you for taking care of us throughout the journey and congratulate you for the work you did. And also tell them that we will see you in 2015.

Back home

This mixture of sorrow and joy that haunted us soon turned into serenity. We were 700 kilometers from Tangier and it was 12:00 in the morning. The ship left at 1:00 the next day, Sunday, and it would not leave until 7:00 the next.

In theory we had plenty of time, but the cars weren't at their best. Ours was heating up and we had to refill with coolant every time we refueled.

Our 4 × 4 endured like a champion to the limit of its strength

We started out and we still had time to stop to eat. The Panda was working well and we arrived at the port with more than enough time. Some others had already arrived or would arrive later. We embark, and at 6 in the morning we disembark Algeciras.

In the hotel that we had arranged they let us stay until 14:00 p.m. in the room, although at 12:00 we resumed the march, we still had a day to spare, just in case. Other comrades left directly, without resting, for their destination cities.

We refuel with gasoline and water in Algeciras and we leave for Malaga, the car is fine. We left Malaga aside and went up to Granada, where it began to heat up; at the end of the climb the temperature was alarming, so we stopped and refrigerated. It was still heating up, we stopped to eat. We continued after a few kilometers and it got very hot. We decided to change the radiator for one that we had as a spare but nothing, near Granada, in Loja, we decided to call before the engine seized. Insurance took care of moving the car to a workshop and us to a hotel.

And here our journey ends. The car could not be fixed in one day and the insurance company would be in charge of facilitating the transfer to Palma for us and the car. A ten, therefore, also for insurance.
