Tourism Cars, these were the cards we enjoyed the most in childhood

Heraclio Fournier launched this popular game in 1987 with which we spent hours and hours of fun with friends.

I admit it, today I woke up nostalgic, it must be a mid-life crisis thing, although I always swear and perjure that it hasn't affected me. The fact is that I have taken my Tourism Car deck, which I keep like gold, and I have started to review the models that appeared in it, some of which continue to fascinate me. Heraclius Fournier, which had already published the Rally Cars version in 1984, launched this version in 1987. game with street cars. A year later, Grand Prix would arrive, based on the Formula 1 cars, the F3000 and F-3. I keep that one too.

Tourism Cars Deck

Before continuing, I have to tell you that some of The images you see belong to the page Decks and Playing Cards, a website that has been collecting all types of decks for a decade. A titanic work thanks to which we can find almost any card game that passes through your imagination. Of all kinds of themes, because there were dozens of them, from commercial and combat aircraft, locomotives, motorcycles and a very long etcetera. In addition, he has also gathered all kinds of Spanish and French basses...

DECK OF TOURISM CARS

But we fly to our protagonist, Coches Turismo, which offers us a fantastic selection of street cars of the time. These range from the popular SEAT Ibiza, Peugeot 309 or Citroën AX, to sedans such as the Renault 25 Turbo, the BMW 7 Series or the Jaguar XJ6. There is no shortage of rarities like Emelba 7 or the Mercury Sable - what would they paint there - or the sports cars, like the Ford RS200, Ferrari 328 GTS or, the jewel in the crown, the Porsche 959.

And why is it the jewel in the crown? Well, those of you who had the Touring Cars deck don't need an explanation, so I'll tell the rest. Each card, in addition to being part of a quartet, had six characteristics of the models represented: engine, displacement, power, rpm, speed and consumption. They were the magnitudes that were used to play with friends and, as we will see below, to win or lose all the cards. And in all areas, whoever had the highest figure won, except in consumption.

Well, The Porsche 959 was the most powerful model (331 KW/450 HP) and the fastest (320 km/h), so it was a sure asset when it was your turn to play with it. In return, it had an obvious weak point, because with 20 liters per 100 of consumption, it was the second that spent the most behind the Aston Martin Zagato.

HOW IT WAS PLAYED

There were two game modes, one based on cars characteristics and another dedicated to putting together the quartets by letter, although I have to admit that I never tried the second one. Normally, the first of them was always played, much simpler and faster. All the cards had to be distributed among the players. and each one kept them in the order in which he had received them.

The first participant, normally the one located to the right of the person who has dealt, “the hand”, You turn over your first card and choose the characteristic that interests you the most of that car. For example, if it was your turn Ford Escort 1.3 -on the cards it said Scort-, I would choose consumption, since it is the magnitude by which you were going to surpass more rivals. If, on the other hand, the car was the Porsche 928 S4, you would opt for the displacement or the number of cylinders. If you won, you kept the rest's cards and, if not, you lost yours. In the event of a tie, a new card was drawn again, in which the person who had chosen it at the beginning chose the characteristic.

The cards that were won were placed down in our pile - which we normally had in our hand -. Next, it was the turn of the person who had won the previous round to speak. The players were eliminated as they ran out of cards and, logically, The winner was the one who ended up with all the cards. It is impossible to imagine a simpler mechanism that would give us more hours of fun, in my case, going and seeing the Gumiel de Izán school (Burgos) on the bus.

THEY CAN STILL BE PURCHASED

Fortunately for nostalgic people like most classic car fans, it is possible to find all You are being considered on buying and selling portals such as Wallapop, Todo Coleccion or Thousand Ads. As incredible as it may seem, there are even units that are unopened, with their plastic. It would almost be a shame to take it off after so many years.

In my case, the Tourism Cars deck is synonymous with a time when everything was simpler and we were able to have fun without electronic devices. I'm not saying it was better, but it was very different. Next, I leave you all the letters scanned and I again recommend that you visit Decks and Playing Cards.
