The Italian 50s gave us some of the most extravagant classics in terms of design, having the bodybuilder Ghia good fault for it. Few classics of that era can match its beauty with that of the Chrysler Ghia or the Abarth Coupe that we teach you today ...
El Ghia Abarth 1100 Sport from 1953 was built from a Fiat 1100 of the time, although little can resemble him. Its 'hunting' nose marries perfectly with the exquisite aerodynamics of the sleek lines; certainly, it must not have been easy for the fans of that time to keep their jaws in place when they saw him go by.
Presented at the Turin show, it was sold to American Bill Vaughn, who renamed the concept car as Vaughn SS Wildcat. He then went on to enjoy a somewhat greater preparation than previously carried out by Carlo Abarth: A V8 engine with overhead camshaft instead of the 4-cylinder engine typical of the Fiat 1100.
Apparently, the Ghia Abarth 1100 Sport was found in 1982 hidden under a tin garage; a "barn find" In all rules. Its current owner has restored it from A to Z in five years and is now going to sell it in RM Sotheby's auction in Monterey (California), where it will reach a price at the height of its exclusivity.
