El Biarritz Contest of Elegance 2023 has celebrated its third edition from December 1 to 3. Officially named Concours Pays Basque Élégance Automobile de Biarritz, it is organized by the Automobile Club BCCR (Basque Classic Car Route) and took place at La Halle Iraty, a performance hall located in the French town. The idea is to continue and pay tribute to the tradition of the elegance competitions organized in Biarritz (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) since 1930.
The public was able to enjoy the display of the participating cars on Saturday and Sunday. Classics that were divided into eight categories and among those we find very emblematic models. We are talking about cars like the Jaguar E-Type, Porsche 911 RSR, Aston Martin DB6 or Chevrolet Corvette C1. To these other popular and preclassical models were added like a Fiat 500 L, a VW Beetle Le Jeans version, a Peugeot 203, a Saab 900 or a BMW M5. The exotic note was provided by an eccentric Excalibur.
STARS IN BIARRITZ
Although the main protagonists were others, since there were machines like a Facel Vega, a Lancia Flaminia Cabriolet Pininfarina, a Hotchkiss Grégoire Cabriolet bodied by Chapron or a spectacular Talbot-Lago T23. It certainly wouldn't be for elegance. Although, curiously, the category that shone the most was dedicated to the competition, since it was used to pay tribute to the 24 Hours of Le Mans for its centenary. In this way, “piezones” were shown as a Lorraine Dietrich B3.6, a Rene Bonnet Aerodjet, an AC ACE Bristol and a Alpine A211.
Finally, the winners of each category paraded in front of the public and jury, although perhaps we missed a more emblematic location within Biarritz itself. After deliberations, he was declared the winner of the Biarritz Concours d'Elegance 2023 a 1961 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud. Without a doubt, a brand that never disappoints at these types of events.
In short, an event worthy of those it aims to honor and that, by polishing some details, can become key quote for lovers of posh classics.
