Panda Raid 2018, from the inside

We introduce ourselves: We are the team 'Panda Raid Villamuriel', made up of Iván Tejido and José Luis Franco, with number 16, and Oscar Tejido and Albert Baeza, with number 20. Those of us who wrote these lines are the first couple, and this is the first time that we have participated in a solidarity raid. Last year our colleague Óscar told us about his experience and I have to say that we liked it so much that we decided to embark on the 10th edition of this adventure.

If we have learned anything from Panda raid is that it's a test very demanding on a mechanical level. It must be taken into account that desert conditions and extreme changes in temperatures and terrain make it necessary to always have the vehicle ready. Every day, upon waking up and at the end of the stages, it is mandatory to check the car so as not to have surprises throughout the stages. Only thanks to the foresight, and to the assistance service that the organization makes available to the participants, with a workshop truck and autochthonous mechanics, is it possible to get ahead in this test that takes place in the vastness of the desert.

Panda Raid 2018: Not just cars

Highlight what has been one of the best experiences of our life: First, all year we have been entertaining modifying the car, a Fiat Panda 4 × 4 Sisley from the year 1990, looking for sponsors who could help us both economically and in contributions of solidarity material. Then the raid itself, the atmosphere of companionship, the landscapes that Morocco offered us, being able to feel and interact with the people there ... All of this has been simply incredible.

We have never experienced something so exciting before, an experience in which it has been possible to help with such everyday things for us as school supplies, toys or clothes, while enjoying our wonderful Panda in a dreamlike landscape. For next year we intend to participate again and repeat the play, so from here we launch an appeal to all those fans who want to send educational and humanitarian material to Morocco. We take care of taking it! 😉

More of the best, a little of the worst

And apart from this, What else was the Panda Raid worth? Well, during the 7 days that the test lasted, we have met a lot of people with whom we have created ties, probably for life. Also highlight the happiness of the children when we gave them the school supplies; These are things that we will never forget, being able to see the joy in their eyes upon receiving our donation.

Almost all teams had in their little pandas material for the children who were on the way. Notebooks, pens, pencils, bicycles; in short, basic things but they are very necessary so that they can travel up to the more than 10 kilometers that separate their house from the school and then perform there. They also transported clothes and an endless number of other things, help provided by the participants themselves but also by the collaborating companies.

Finally, the worst part of the raid was the accident we suffered and from which luckily we were physically unharmed; also, after the repair we were able to move on (thank goodness!).

Until next year!
