This was the catalog of the Ferrari F40

Converted into one of the most iconic cavallinos of all time, the Ferrari F40 had a catalog to match, although with some peculiarities.

There is little doubt that The Ferrari F40 is one of the Maranello models that arouses the most passions. His extreme conception, the beauty of his uncompromising lines and even a spoiler that is his hallmark, have made him the object of desire for entire generations. In fact, many of us had posters or school folders covered with the latest model presented by Enzo Ferrari.

Ferrari F40

By then, shared the limelight with models such as its archrival, the Porsche 959 or the Lamborghini Countach. Even his younger brother, the Testarossa, starred in the dreams of the youngest. Over the years, the Ferrari F40 has established itself as the king and lord among the supercars of the time. It is still the yardstick of modern machines that it is often pitted against.

That is why we have asked ourselves What would the catalog look like? Ferrari F40 in his time. And the response is almost as spectacular as the car itself, as we are going to discover below.

THE FERRARI F40 CATALOG

The first thing we have to clarify is that this is the first catalog of the model, more would come later. The format is completely square and unfolds when opened. The cover is entirely red, with the letters F40 perforated below, imitating the spelling that the car sports on the spoiler. When you open it, we found a model side image, in this case with a red band with the logo in black and the Ferrari shield on the left. It does not have the one from the Scuderia, which does mount the car in the wheel arch.

Next, displaying the complete catalogue, we have different pictures of the car from all angles. Above, we see it in front and rear three quarters, always in studio photos with a black background. At the bottom, we find a pure front and rear. If we look at the right side, there are two images of the interior, one of the dashboard and the other of the seats.

In the middle, perhaps symbolizing that in the Ferrari the engine is what commands, there is a color drawing of the propellant. It is the turbocharged V8 that It caused so much controversy at the time, and which almost no one remembers anymore, by the way.

A curiosity, all the images in this catalog of the Ferrari F40 are from one of the prototypes, not from the final model. It can be seen in details such as the position of the rear view mirrors or the five rear air inlets. In the standard model, the mirrors are raised and it has four ventilation strips.. In addition, inside, it equips some red panels that did not go to the series and some different seats.

LITTLE TEXT AND OUTSTANDING FIGURES

As we can see, there is very little text, which is actually a basic technical sheet in four different languages: Italian, English, French and German. Although what is most striking are the highlights in those same four languages. There, Ferrari highlights the top speed of the model, no less than 324 km/h. That is to say, above 200 miles per hour, a milestone that no street car had reached until then.

Next, he offers the time in the kilometer starting from a standstill, a fantastic 21,0 seconds. In addition, he adds that it reaches 270 km/h in this measurement. The most interesting is left for last, since Gives the time it takes to go from 0 to 200 km/h, just 12 seconds. That is to say, it seems that the Ferrari F40 did not need to be compared with anyone in 0 to 100 km/h, a vulgar measurement for a supercar of its characteristics. He did it in 4,1 seconds, so you don't have any doubts.

Now we only have to close -rather fold- the catalog again. The back cover follows the same scheme as the cover, this one scarce with the letters imitating a Ferrari relief. If you have wanted to have a catalog of the F40, there are several for sale on the internet for quite reasonable prices. They ask about 50 euros on average, which does not seem exaggerated for having a document of this type.

I started in the magazine Coches Clásicos in its beginnings, going on to direct it in 2012, the year in which I also took charge of Clásicos Populares. Throughout these almost two decades of my professional career, I have worked in all types of media, including magazines, radio, the web and television, always in formats and programs related to the engine. I am crazy about the classics, Formula 1 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
