Renault continues to bet on the future, but without forgetting its past or, rather, taking it as a source of inspiration. To the well-known reinterpretations of the R5 and R4, The future Renault Twingo is now added, whose release date has been set for 2026. That is, just over two years to see the small French utility vehicle look again like it did in its best days.
Because that is exactly what the rhombus firm has done, taking the original design of the car as a basis to formulate an attractive urban proposal. Once again and in line with current times, it will be born in a 100% electric format, although with a very interesting novelty: its cost. It is expected to be on sale for a price of less than 20.000 euros., which will effectively make this type of vehicle begin to become popular.
The lines of the new Twingo, whose name comes from combining three dance styles -tango, twist and swing-, have been revealed at an event in which Renault has announced Ampere. It is a new company of the Renault Group which will be responsible for producing the French firm's electric vehicles. With it, a platform called AmpR Small was born, which is on which the reissue of the already mythical “egg”, affectionate nickname that the car received at the time.
THIS IS THE FUTURE RENAULT TWINGO
Starting from the front, The new Twingo shows a “look” almost identical to that of the original model, although conveniently updated with LED lighting. In addition, the three air inlets on the left side have given way to three indicators that, as seen in the image -92%-, could show the battery charge level. Presumably this element will not carry over to the series as is. In any case, as a whole its front part is recognizable like Twingo at first glance, although with a modern air.
The same thing happens with the back, although here the changes are more profound. Starting with optics that do not respect the shapes of the first generation model. They opt for a semicircular design, despite which the entire rear vaguely reminds us of its ancestor. The drop of the tailgate is very similar to that of the original car.
The main change is found on the side and is imposed by circumstances, since the future Renault Twingo will have five doors. This will certainly require a greater battle, although it will still The exact measurements of the car are unknown.. Of course, it repeats the short overhangs of its predecessor. Furthermore, the images that have been shown seem to indicate that the two handles are located in the center of the car, so it seems clear that the rear doors will be opened in the opposite direction to the direction of travel. These extra doors also require a redesign of the side windows, although the B-pillar is painted black to hide its presence.
COMPARISON WITH THE ORIGINAL
What has not been released are images of the interior, so we will have to wait a little longer to find out. It will surely preserve in part the minimalism of a car that exuded originality on all four sides. A very personal design that exuded freshness and made it an icon. Now that Renault recovers it as inspiration we can only celebrate this view to the past of the rhombus brand
Next, we leave you the photographs of the future Renault Twingo compared to those of the original model so you can see that the resemblance is more than real.
