After several cancellations of other events and after being postponed from their normal dates in December until the weekend of June 11-13, the celebration of Retromalaga, Malaga contest, it can be considered an event and an example to follow for future fairs, since It is the first classic vehicle fair held in Spain after the pandemic.

As is customary, the Trade Fair and Congress Center of the Malaga capital has hosted the fair organized by the company Engine Events, and as is normal today, it has had its peculiarities. To access it, you had to pass a temperature control, and before entering the pavilion some personal information was requested (telephone, full name, etc). Once inside, there was a greater space in the corridors, which also split into other sub-corridors separated by ribbons that surrounded the stands themselves.

RetroMálaga: Medium full

The main pavilion despite everything -or thanks to these larger spaces- could be considered as full, partly thanks to the presence of several local clubs, the customary stands of the Malaga Museum or the “multi-anniversary” stand of the Maserati Biturbo, Mercedes-Benz R-107, Renault 4L, Seat 850 and Alfa Romeo Giulietta. It was also notable the presence of the two wheels and of spare parts, booksellers and miniature stalls, the latter almost as crowded as before the break.

A greater presence of local professional buying and selling was missed, Well, we could hardly see the stand of the RG Classics company, which came with a team of five Ford Mustangs, among which an interesting GT 500 from the late 60s stood out. The always dynamic national clubs of Lancia and Seat 124 were also present and in some corners we could find such cool things as a freshly restored PTV or two different Alpine A110 units.

In the second pavilion and the adjacent courtyard was the always lively visitor parking, where among several popular classics stood out some pieces of a rarity or quality to which we are not accustomed, normally carried by foreign fans residing on the Costa del Sol, a collective always very present at the Malaga fair. Because for example When was the last time we saw an ACM Biagini or a replica Bentley Blower around here?

Several local clubs held their long-awaited -after a year and a half- thematic concentrations, such as the Club Mustang and the Mazda “Miata” association, which managed to collect an outstanding number of units.

The rise of the Industrial Classics

It also highlighted the presence of several perfectly restored classic trucks of the Spanish brands Pegaso, Avia and Ebro, scattered here and there throughout the fair, apart from the several buses carried by the very dynamic Malaga association Trambus, which continues to increase its fleet of preserved vehicles. Undoubtedly, the love for classical industrialists is clearly growing in Spain, and the Andalusian sample is usually a good example of this.

Regarding the influx of public, Despite the circumstances, it was quite remarkable, and even greater than expected, in the words of the organizers themselves. Several thousand people passed through the fair throughout the weekend, avoiding the high temperatures and avoiding the temptation of the desirable Malaga beaches.

My name is Francisco Carrión and I was born in Ciudad Real in 1988, a place that was not at first akin to vintage cars. Fortunately my grandfather, dedicated to the automotive sector, had friends who owned veteran cars and participated in the annual rally that was held (and continues to be held) in my hometown ...
