[su_dropcap style = »light»] H [/ su_dropcap] It has been many years since, at least in our country, the successful and award-winning ceased to be manufactured Renault 4; that practical French car originally devised to make things more difficult for its countryman, the famous Citroën 2CV. It was born in the year 61, a time when the commercial life of products was a "little bit enough" longer than they have now. So much so that its sales lasted until just over 1992. Almost nothing.

In those prosperous years the segments in the automotive world also existed, yes, but the truth is that they were much more diffuse. Surely many of you know what I am talking about. And it is that in my house there was also one, of course, that serves as an example: our famous "Four cans" it served as urban, family tourism, commercial cargo car for removals ... It served me as driving school car, and yes, even an SUV vehicle. As it is.

All this comes because a few days ago our colleagues from Motorpassion they reminded us of an old press video from the Renault 4L in which the not inconsiderable capacities were presented to us off-road of this famous Gaul so common on our roads. Some will find it laughable, but this is true: Many current SUVs would like to move on the tracks with the joy with which they did it. Renault 4 o Renoletas in the video. And it's true, these old cars have something that today's cars don't have. Or rather, today's cars have something that the old ones didn't have ... Weight.

No secrets of technique

Everything has a reasonable explanation. Currently safety regulations force manufacturers to make very rigid cars. Consequently, and until a material is found at least like carbon fiber but much cheaper and easier to handle, today's cars will continue to weigh a quintal compared to the mythical vehicles of yesteryear. A current scourge that is paid in the fun of driving, in the grip, the benefits and the comfort of the suspensions (which makes them have to be tared to be good in some things or in others; but both at the same time, impossible ).

I will put a very graphic and totally real example that happened to me a few years ago: I was in an event of a modern SUV vehicle, whose brand I do not want to remember, going up in a caravan through a very curved and uneven stretch of land, while they were commenting the great capacities SUV of the new product. Suddenly a white thing passed us all to the left like an exhalation to disappear into the distance across the rugged terrain, causing us all a considerable and logical fit of laughter. That vehicle was an honorable Citroën C15 ...

I said: I hope you enjoy the aforementioned video of the Renault 4 that I leave down here and that you smile like me remembering how these were spent utilities of yore. Of course, the issue of safety, creaks, performance and driving with hardly any direction that these cars had when you were driving with them loaded, we leave it for another time, so as not to spoil the romanticism, right? Long live the classics!
