Designed to be a "Umbrella with 4 wheels", The Citroën 2CV is one of the most popular and loved classics by motor racing fans. In the summers of the town ... Because that neighbor had it ... When your cousin bought it ... Who else who has less known or ridden in one, experiencing the wobbles of its suspension and the spartanness of its interior. Designed to withstand daily off-road use, and with more than five million units sold from 1948 to 1990, the Citroën 2CV is part of the memories of many of us.
Also from those of Luis Miguel Rodriguez, a young man from Malaga - in the video you can see his still necessary "L" - who in this video tells us how his family's passion for classic motoring has passed from generation to generation. "People look at me, smile at me, try to buy it for me ..." This is how Luis Miguel describes how special it is to go in a restored 2CV. A 2CV that recovers the memory of the one who used to have his grandfather: a mechanic by profession who knew how to pass the job on to his son and passion to his grandson.
FILMING A 2 HORSES AT THE GALLOP
When it hit the market in the late 40s, the 2CV featured a 375cc engine with 9CV of power. However, throughout his long life the engines evolved up to the 602 cc and almost 40CV that the v6 version yields, launched in the early '70s and included in this video. Used to reading about Ferrari, Porsche or Mercedes engines ... it is not an impressive figure. But if we take into account the weight / power ratio, we are facing a more pranked specimen than it might seem at first.
That "prancing character" is perfectly reflected in the video of Luis Miguel Rodríguez, where we see the responses of the 2CV winding the curves of the Montes de Málaga. A more "radical" feeling than you would expect from a car like this. Both in the sound -pure sheet steel on all sides- and in the curves -thanks to its suspension of longitudinal arms- the 2CV is a car with a personality as unique as it is fun.
Like it shows, in one scene we can see the famous 2CV curved "heel". Which, thanks to this particular damping system, leans much more than normal. That suspension designed so soft to be able to "transport eggs" safely, offers strong emotions with its wide swings. Get an idea by watching the video:
THE FIRST OF THOSE TO COME
For those of us who like the classics, these are not simply machines. They tell us stories, convey emotions and lead us to investigate how certain models arose and evolved. A classic is not just a car, it is also everything that surrounds it: its history. For this reason, we cannot feel more identified when Luis Miguel declares that "Over time I discovered that what I really like are the stories behind it."
And for this, to tell us those stories behind each car, just created the channel Asphalt. His first video is this story that, even though it is his, balances our memories as if we were still kids in the back seat of that 2CV, boating towards the river.
