Up for auction, five black Ferrari Testarossa

RM Sotheby's will put up for auction in Villa d'Este no less than five black Ferrari Testarossa. They belong to The Black On Black Collection and are all from different versions.

If it's hard to find a Ferrari Testarossa black -most of them were red, of course-, things get complicated if what we are looking for are five. And let's not say if, in addition, we want them all different from each other. This is just what it will offer the next May 20 RM Sotheby's in Villa Erba, in the exclusive auction held every two years since 2011 next to Lake Como.

The auction will take place next to the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, one of the most important in the world and probably the best of those held in Europe. On this occasion, RM Sotheby's will offer a total of 16 lots, all of the highest level. We talk about cars like a rare 1952 Bentley R-Type Continental Fastback Sports Saloon by HJ Mulliner or a 5 Aston Martin DB1964 “Project”.

Supercars like a Lamborghini Diablo VT from 1994 or Bugatti Chiron from 2019 will also have a leading role, as well as several BMW M, starting with a 3 M1990 Sport Evolution. Another of the protagonists will undoubtedly be the Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II from the DTM, an official unit from 1992. As we can see, all are pieces of the greatest interest.

FIVE FERRARI TESTAROSSA, FIVE

Almost like in the bullfighting posters, and although the bulls are a thing of Lamborghini, the highlight of the Villa Erba auction will be five Ferrari Testarossa. All are black and, in addition, to round off the curl, they have their corresponding interior also in black leather. Of course, these are very well-kept units, in perfect condition and most with low mileage.

They belong to The Black On Black Collection and they are different versions from each other, including the last two generations of the model that lost the original name. In this way, we find from a 1986 "Monospecchio" to a 1987 "Monodado", to continue with a 1989 model, a 512 TR from 91 and end with a 512 F1996 M.

Let's move on to meet each and every one of the protagonists from this particular RM Sotheby's auction.

FERRARI TESTAROSSA “MONOSPECCHIO” FROM 1986

1986 Ferrari Testarossa Monospecchio

The first Ferrari Testarossa, which They were characterized by having a single rearview mirror on the left side. In addition, it was mounted on top of the A-pillar, giving it a distinctive look. Today they are the most valued units of the model.

The unit that is up for auction has chassis number 63349 and was assembled in March 1986. It was intended for the United States market, where it was registered almost 37 years ago, specifically on July 1, 1986. It remained in the USA until at least 1998. Later, in October 2019, the timing belt was changed . She joined the Black On Black collection in December 2020.

In addition to an exceptional state of preservation, it is offered with the user manual, service book, matching luggage and tool kit. Surely, it will be one of the units that will arouse the most expectation.

FERRARI TESTAROSSA “MONODADO” FROM 1987

Next on the list, and also from The Black On Black Collection, is this 1987 Testarossa “Monodado”. Let's remember that these models They receive that denomination for having a single central nut on the wheels. 16 inches. It is something common to the units of the first years and, therefore, also to the “Monopecchio”. In 1987, the Testarossa reached 1.000 annual units for the first time, while incorporating some minor changes regarding the odometer or seat belts.

In this case, we are dealing with chassis 69039, also shipped in the United States, specifically on April 16, 1987. Like the rest of its auction partners, It has a black leather interior to match the bodywork.. He stayed in the USA at least until 2015, when he got the Platinum Award from the Ferrari Club of North America at an event in Monterey. Already in Europe, in March 2020 the timing belt was changed, before becoming part of The Black On Black Collection in December.

It has only 4.464 miles on its odometer, that is, it is practically brand new. In addition, it includes the user manuals, the custom luggage set and the perceptive toolkit. For its condition and mileage, it may be the unit that commands a higher price.

1989 FERRARI TESTAROSSA

As production progressed, the Testarossa became standardized. The best proof is this unit from 1989, already with two rear-view mirrors and five-nut wheels. Ferrari preferred to go without any originality, which did not diminish the interest of potential buyers, since, in total, 7.177 units of this first variant were assembled until 1991.

This Testarossa was shipped on June 7, 1989, and since then, just traveled 30.137 kilometers. I mean, it's not new, but almost. Like the rest of the "litter" of The Black On Black Collection, it has a black body and black leather interior. Its state of conservation is extraordinary.

is also delivered with the original luggage set of the car, different invoices and vouchers and the complete maintenance book. There is no lack of the set of tools that was delivered with all Ferrari Testarossa.

FERRARI 512 TR FROM 1992

1992 Ferrari 512TR

At the end of 1991, the Testarossa knew its first evolutioncalled 512 TR. This has generated some controversy afterwards, as there are those who consider that both this model and its successor, the F512 M, cannot be called Testarossa. For whoever writes this, the whole family can be called that without a problem. The fact is that, with the new model, numerous improvements were introduced. The engine was positioned lower to improve weight distribution, while its power reached 428 CV thanks to a Bosch control unit. The suspensions were also improved, which had an impact on the behavior.

Aesthetically, as we can see in this chassis unit 93894, the angular shapes of the original Testarossa were softened. Also the interior was thoroughly updated. This car was delivered to its first owner on May 20, 1992 through Ferrari Central East Europe, that is, it stayed on the Old Continent. It also made its way into the collection in December 2020, having received a €9.000 tune-up in Maranello in September 2018. A year later, in 2019, its timing belt was replaced.

It has 55.954 kilometers on its odometer and is delivered with the original set of suitcases and the tool kit that came with the car. It should be remembered that 2.280 units of the Ferrari 512 TR were manufactured between 1991 and 1994.

FERRARI F512M FROM 1996

1996 Ferrari F512M

The latest member of the Black On Black selection is an F512 M. This is the latest evolution of the Testarossa, known as “Modificata” -which is what the M stands for-. The car continued to be improved in all sections, including the mechanics, whose power reaches 446 CV. Was the Swan song of Ferrari V12 engines at 180º. The suspensions incorporated gas shock absorbers and ABS was included to improve braking.

The bodywork was substantially modified, disappearing the retractable headlights and with a more elaborate wheel design. Behind, the aluminum grille gave way to a smaller one, now with round headlights at the ends. The interior also received a good update. This unit, chassis 103905, was delivered to its first owner in Germany on January 4, 1996, that is, the last model year. It looks, like the rest of the protagonists of this news, with exterior and interior in black. Car It has been maintained and reviewed by various specialists since then including timing belt change in August 2020.

He has 85.509 kilometers to his credit, but since only 501 units were manufactured between 1994 and 1996, it is hoped that it reaches a good price. It is delivered with the original manuals and the set of tools.

By the way, for those who prefer red Ferraris, like all life, this magnificent 328 GTS from 1989 with just 28.417 kilometers.
