TEXT AND PHOTOS: SPAIN CLASSIC RALLY
After eight days traveling more than 3.000 kilometers of twisting roads, enjoy beautiful landscapes, driving and competition, the participating teams in the second edition of the Spain Classic Rally they arrived in Madrid last Saturday. A well-deserved rest awaited them there, but first two cherries for this asphalt adventure: Enjoy with their cars the circuit of the Jarama Circuit in a final timed section and the final celebration dinner right there, on the circuit itself.
On Saturday May 18, the classic car caravan left Oviedo to end a week later in Madrid, passing through Santander, Pamplona, Aínsa, Tossa de Mar, Salou, Teruel and Cuenca. Remember that participating vehicles must be at least 25 years old and in this edition we find outstanding models, such as porsche 911, 964 and 944, Datsun 260Z, Toyota Celica, Alfa Romeo GTV, BMW M3 E30 or BMW 635 CSI. In front of them we find more humble models who stood up to them, demonstrating that the human team is of enormous importance on a regular basis. Among them were, for example, a Renault Fuego, a Beetle, several 127, Renault 5 and Ford Fiesta.
Spain Classic Rally: 8 Varied Stages
During the eight stages and more than 3.000 kilometers the weather has been very varied, as have the landscapes. From the Cantabrian Mountains to the Central Plateau the tour has passed through the Pyrenees and they have even enjoyed the beach in Catalonia.
Five teams have taken home the stage winners trophy, a very close rally in which finally the Toyota Celica of Florencio López and Mario Pérez prevailed. On the second step of the podium, the Fiat Uno Turbo by Ricardo Ferrón and Luis Marín was placed, to complete the photo with the third-placed, the Ford Fiesta by Alejandro Temprano and Irene Fabra, who also won the trophy for the first pre-classified car. 80. In this special category for cars prior to 1980, second place went to the Datsun 260Z from Chisco Benavente and Pilar Iglesias and third to Seat 127 from Óscar García and Víctor Chiquero.
In addition, the organization awarded a series of special prizes to the women participating in the rally and to two teams, those who commanded the Renault Fuego and the Datsun 260Z. for his spirit of improvement and for his sympathy throughout the rally despite the multiple mechanical problems that dragged on during many stages.
