Spain Classic Raid, on Spanish tracks

[dropcap] E [/ dropcap] The Spain Classic Raid It has been an original test with a practically unprecedented concept: Crossing the peninsula through rough terrain and with vehicles of more than 25 years. The organization has been run by the "Escudería Etcétera" and has counted on 26 participants from all over Spain, so this first edition can be considered a success.

The concept is similar to Challenges carried out by various French and English organizations and which usually end up in Morocco ... Or without going so far, something similar to Panda raid which has been held for several years with a Spanish organization.

Spain Classic Raid: Classics and mud

The test began on October 17 in Barcelona and ended on October 24 in Seville, after traveling more than 2.000 kilometers on demanding rural tracks. So much so that only thirteen surviving teams managed to reach Seville.

Mud, stones, rivers, sand, wild fauna and spectacular landscapes have been the constant in this first edition of Spain Classic Raid, that has traveled the provinces of Barcelona, ​​Lérida, Zaragoza, Guadalajara, Madrid, Toledo, Ciudad Real, Jaén, Málaga, Granada, Almería and Seville, enjoying in each of them its gastronomy and architecture, but above all its landscapes, cross numerous natural parks.

Sierra Nevada, Sierra de Baza, Despeñaperros or places like the deserts of Monegros and Almería; a whole catalog of picturesque and tourist places throughout the Spanish geography.

The participating vehicles were divided into two categories called "4X4" and "1000 cc". You could see a Seat 850, two Renault 4, several Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Golf or a Citroën Visa diesel.

Two categories, one party

Although undoubtedly the ones that had the least problems in the toughest areas were the varied off-road vehicles, among which there were from a very rare Volkswagen Golf Syncro to several Panda 4 × 4 or real ones. "All way" such as a Suzuki Samurai or a Land Rover Santana “Light”, which also came out behind in the caravan to help vehicles with less benefits in case of need.

The classifications have been based on regularity routes at fixed average speed, the absolute winners the Catalan couple formed by Juan Donatiu and Pere Serrat, aboard their 1982 Ford Fiesta perfectly prepared for the occasion.
