"How difficult it is to make love in a Simca 1000", they were saying the Inhumans back in 1988. It was a song published on the album “30 lone men” and it made special emphasis on how cheap the car was and, obviously, how small it was. Two issues that were more than evident, especially in 1988, when the Simca 1000 it was 17 years old and still considered an “old car” and not a classic.

Before talking about Simca 1000 Rallye 2 Maxi “Maurelec”, we will tell that the little Simca 1000 began to leave the factory of Barreiros, in Villaverde, in 1965. Before, he had to overcome all kinds of obstacles that the Spanish central administration placed on him, since imports were prohibited and practically nothing could enter from outside.
La Simca 1000 history, beyond a fun song, hides some very interesting things. For example, not everyone knows that the development of this French model began as a joint effort with Fiat and that the starting point was the technical solutions used in the 600. Fiat withdrew from the project and launched the 850, while Simca completed the job and obviously put the Simca 1000 into circulation.
THE HISTORY OF THE SIMCA 1000

It was presented in 1961, but it did not arrive in Spain until 1965, not only because of the obstacles to importation. Also because Chrysler, who had signed an agreement with Barreiros to manufacture cars in SpainHe ignored Eduardo's requests because they had other interests.
Also, it won some nicknames , the “poor man's steak”, which made reference to the slogan of its advertising: “the five-seater with nerve”. It was for five and on top of that, the meat had nerve... The best of Simca 1000, at least for the most passionate users, was the great presence in competition of the model, even from Barreiros-Chrysler itself a single-brand cup was promoted: the Simca Challenge.
Nor can we ignore the 1000 GT to 1000 Rallye, versions that came to have engines of up to 103 CV in the case of the Simca 1000 Rallye 3, appeared in France in 1977. The 1000 Rallye 2 with Danone livery is also known, with which it won the Spanish Mountain Touring Car Championship the ill-fated Fermin VelezIn 1982.
THE SIMCA 1000 RALLYE 2 MAXI “MAURELEC”
However, there is a even more spectacular version, and much less known, of the Simca 1000 Rallye. In fact, it is such a rare version that there are barely "four photos" and some information. Too bad, because the car looks really beast, a true "silouette", a prototype that only has in common a slight cosmetic resemblance to the production model.

The available information confirms his "silhouette" driving, since, apparently, the chassis came from a Chevron B20, an F2 car, launched in 1977. Said frame was reinforced with an anti-roll cage and dressed in a body made of polyester. There is no data on measurements, but it is clear that it has nothing to do with the production model. It could easily be half a meter wider, it's much lower and the entire exterior is finished off with a large front spoiler and a oversized rear wing.
Cantilever mounted, at the rear, was a 4 cubic centimeter 1.100-cylinder engine, with a turbo -coefficient 1.4, equivalent to 1.598 atmospheric cubic centimeters-. It yielded, it seems, more than 300 hp at 10.800 revolutions, which makes this car the Simca 1000 Rallye wildest and fastest ever. Just think of its spectacular power-to-weight ratio of around 1,6 kilos per horse, which on the scale the whole shed around 500 kilos in running order.
MECHANICS
The engine was a real gem, as it had a hand-welded dry sump and Kugelfischer mechanical injection with two injectors per cylinder. coming from a Porsche 928 S4. It was also equipped with rods and rockers made of Zicral, an alloy of aluminum and zinc, with magnesium and copper. For its part, the valve cups were made of titanium, the machined crankshaft with eight counterweights, connecting rods and forged pistons... All this coupled to a Hewland FT200 derailleur with five relationships and a 180-millimeter double-disc clutch.
The preparation and tuning of the engine was a matter of Maurelec, a French company founded in 1976 by Marcel Morel, specialized in development studies and realizations of competition engines, as well as custom vehicles. Car competed in Norway with Per Sturesson as driver, who won most of the tests in which he participated.
Unfortunately, we don't know the destination suffered by this huge Simca 1000 Rallye 2 Maxi “Maurelec”.
