Dear fellow fans from Spain and from other countries:
Since the 1-1-1999, the legislative amendment promoted by AUTOMOVILISTAS EUROPEOS ASOCIADOS (AEA) broke the barrier that made it difficult for Spain to adopt this long-awaited measure, more than THOUSAND Spanish municipalities (among them, those of 46 of the 51 capitals province) have approved regulations aimed at eliminating (or, at least, reducing) the tax burden on our precious vehicles, modifying their respective ordinances. Attached you will find the LIST OF LOCATIONS whose neighbors can already enjoy this positive panorama.
However, NO TIME TO CONGRATULATE: THERE IS STILL A LOT OF WORK TO BE DONE. The City Councils that live "with their backs" to this cultural need are still the majority. On the other hand, some City Council seems to have supported this initiative more because of "being on the list" than out of genuine conviction. We are referring to those that have adopted measures for the exclusive benefit of the "handful" of vehicles that carry the new (and expensive) "historic vehicle" license plates. As if this registration - created to solve other types of problems - could be used as a selection criterion (not to mention authentic discrimination).
The municipalities of all Spain are now closing their budgets for the year 2007. As every year, AEA is carrying out a new campaign to expand the number of towns in which fans can benefit from this measure. At LA ESCUDERÍA, we think that this is also the time for fans to do what we can to support this effort (of which we are direct beneficiaries).
How can we make this support effective? Well, by presenting a letter to our respective City Council requesting the adoption of this measure. Attached you will find models of this writing, for presentation both by a particular, as for a club / association (consult our «List of Clubs and Associations» and, if someone is in your area, do not hesitate to request their support: THE UNION MAKES STRENGTH).
If you have access to local representatives, do not miss the opportunity to defend this just claim. In case it would help you, we put at your disposal the arguments contained in the PLEA FOUNDATION MANIFESTO construction and also in the open letter that we address to the Mayor of Madrid a few years ago. Although this does not seem to have moved the illustrious recipient of it to much reflection at the moment, there are those who think that she is quite well reasoned. We also organize several Rallies in Madrid, in support of this petition. Perhaps you could organize something similar in your locality, to clearly show the benefits that the community receives from our efforts.
For those who live in other countries, we invite you to use this information to introduce this measure in your environment. Seek the support of an important motoring organization in your country that is sensitive to the socio-cultural value of our vehicles, and show them what is being done in Spain. The positive winds that have been blowing for our fans in the rest of Europe for decades arrived in Spain just a few years ago. Why not think that, from here, they can also spread to other countries?
