Retromotor 2019 opens to all four wheels

RETROMOTOR PHOTOS 2019: THE ESCUDERÍA

After a couple of years as an exclusively motorcyclist salon, for the 2019 edition the organizing company Motor events decided to include four-wheelers, so the old "Retromoto Barcelona" happened to become "Retromotor Barcelona". The event took place during the last weekend of March at the La Farga fairgrounds (L`Hospitalet de Llobregat, Barcelona), as in previous editions.

In the bright interior, generally devoid of carpets or other luxuries, one could see a varied jumble in which any sector of the motor enthusiast would find something interesting. Based on the fact that it is still an eminently motorcycle fair and the great love for two wheels in that area, cars of all kinds could also be seen. Several clubs moved vehicles of all kinds ranging from a modified Lamborghini Espada -an aberration for the most purists- to a nice DKW S800 Van, through the usual selection of the National Club Seat 124-1430 that included a whole original Ddauto.

There was also representation of the local Mini or Seat 600 clubs, with concentration abroad and careful units in their stands, or the commemoration of the Citroën centenary that this year cannot be missing in any self-respecting salon, and that as a most interesting piece included an unusual Dyane 6 "Proto ”Racing with honors in the Spa Francochamps circuit.

There were few professionals in the buying and selling sector, highlighting the Barcelona autostoric, who came with a varied selection of American cars from the 50s, 60s and 70s - different from what we are used to - and the Catawiki auction house, with a stand featuring a Alfa Romeo Montréal and a pristine Ford Sierra Cosworth that were part of a special auction on the occasion of the show that included some 20 lots, all with Barcelona history.

Returning to the field of the exhibition, the stands of the tribute to Salvador Cañellas and that of 70th anniversary of the local brand OSSA, which also had very interesting conferences with a large audience, since listening to the experiences by Cañellas or the OSSA engineer Eduard Giró is not something I know every day.

A lot of motorcycle, but the cars arrive with force

Continuing with the motorcyclist theme, we must comment on the "Very currados" stands of the Bultaco and Montesa clubs, both with elaborate dioramas including Land Rover and Citroen AKS service vans. One was right in front of the other showing that the historical rivalry of these two brands is something that continues today among their respective fans.

The Catalan Motorcycling Federation also paid tribute to Manuel Fabregat Ferrer on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the creation in 1969 of the Unitat Moto Alpina. And it is that as we said at the beginning, this event, of a somewhat local and carefree character, continues to have a marked motorcyclist tint and what was abundant were the two wheels, although the motorist section -including car parts- has entered strongly and it promises growth for future editions.
