Between August 11 and 14, the Teresa Herrera rally was held in Galicia, one of the most traditional tourist rallies in Spain. And it is that an event of these characteristics that has been celebrated in our country for 25 years is undoubtedly synonymous with success and dedication.
But also in this case there is another factor necessary for its continuity: generational change, both organizers and participants. The new Coruña Veteran Car team took over a few years ago and has managed to bring the necessary freshness to this type of excursion, including activities for all tastes ... and audiences.
Teresa Herrera is not going to spend endless hours riding in cars; you are going to enjoy the surroundings and the company of fans from all over Spain. This is also complemented by various cultural activities related (or not) to motor racing.
The period costume contest is now traditional which is normally held in the Coruña Plaza de María Pita before the attentive gaze of hundreds of passers-by, or the talks / conferences given by the automobile historian Don Ramón Roca. Also this year a new book on La Hispano-Suiza was presented by Manuel Lage.
So that co-pilots or companions not adept at our world also feel entertained, there are usually activities such as visits to shopping centers, museums, or the now traditional slalom held in Los Cantones de La Coruña where the skills of the pilots and the state of the mechanics.
As you may have seen, all of this is already a noteworthy organizational effort. In this XXV edition, the base has been in Coruña capital -as it usually is- and Oleiros, Santiago de Compostela and Cerceda have been visited, although as we said before, more time is spent visiting different things than properly on the road and circulating with cars.
Variety and quality prior to 1963
As for the participating vehicles, they have been of the variety and quality that has been common for several years, with more than 30 vehicles of all styles and brands subject to the indispensable requirement of being built prior to 1963. As a curiosity, the organization always makes sure that the caravan and parc fermé follow a strict order from oldest to most modern, as far as possible.
The oldest vehicle this year was a 4 Opel 14/1926 PS, closely followed by a whole Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost from Catalonia. Given the quality of the park assembled, it is difficult to highlight any, but among the “pre-war” we were especially interested in the Hispano-Suiza Junior prototype with its elegant VanVooren body and the other HS present, an impressive T-56 Bis convertible phaeton body from the Museum Jové.
Of the cars manufactured in the postwar period, the Mercedes of different models and periods stood out in number, as well as the number of English roadsters, with practically all the possibilities present there.
Now we can only recommend attending as a participant or a mere spectator. We assure you that events like this never disappoint, not even under the demands of the capricious Galician climate.
