If you like the mountains, you will already know that it is convenient to keep your eyes wide open. You never know what you can find. Last month we informed you about the Honda NSX found in a Russian forest. And well, without going any further ... we ourselves have come to find a Cadillac inside the ruins of a Toledo airfield. And even the remains of a tank next to Madrid's Casa de Campo. What a face we have!
We would have liked to be in the shoes of the hiker who discovered this Porsche 924. Partially covered by thick undergrowth in an Oregon forest, the 924 has been overturned and abandoned for 27 years. Trying to reconstruct the event, it is speculated that the car fell from a curve located a few meters above. But ... why abandon such a vehicle in the middle of nowhere?
A DETECTIVE HISTORY
On January 20, 1991, the theft of the Porsche was reported to the Medford police station. Years passed ... and nothing was known. Obviously it had been stolen, but if it was not to resell it even in parts ... for what then? We do not know the motives of the thief, but there is something that does occur to us, and is related to the rear wheel drive of the Porsche 924.
We have checked the situation on the road where the accident occurred. According to note from Jackson County Sheriff's office, the way is National Forest Road 6620 Oregon. If you see it through satellite view ... it is a long curvy road running through a wooded area in the middle of nowhere. Translated into the language of a driving lover, a marvel. Kilometers of mountain curves with hardly any traffic. Ideal for having fun with a sports car like this Porsche 924.
And be careful, because although the 924 is, thanks to its transaxle and lower power, much more manageable for inexperienced hands that the 911 contemporaries ... This is still a rear-wheel drive Porsche launched in 1976. In other words, a car with a certain verve that in mountain curves you have to know how to drive. Imagine it, just stolen, in the hands of a Yankee thief eager to “take a little spin” before doing business. A stranger on a curve ... the Porsche into the forest ... and the thief escaping as he can from the incriminating scene made a mess.
AND NOW THAT?
After almost 30 years, we do not know if the car will return to the hands of its former owner. Nor if he will have collected some type of insurance based on the disappearance. Be that as it may, the truth is that it seems quite damaged ...
Will someone give him a second chance? Will it return to the hands of its original owner? Will it be auctioned by the police? It will probably end up in the scrapyard which, although inevitable, will be a shame. I wish I could once again provide strong emotions to new drivers.
