18 Months In 4 Minutes: Restoring A Porsche 911 In The Garage

Throughout several generations and a multitude of versions, Since 911 the Porsche 1963 has been earning the title of "sporting" par excellence. For a time its production was questioned. However, thanks to its radical character based on formula "All behind", he has built an unconditional hobby of followers. No one doubts that this model is an icon capable of generating passions ... and justifying enormous efforts.

Many of these efforts result in magnificent restorations of the 911, more or less faithful to the original, some so impressive like the one recently signed by Singer - Williams. Today we are going to focus on something a little more modest but beware, with a lot of charm; Specifically, with all the charm that craftsmanship and the determination of a classic motor enthusiast have. No less than 18 months of work in the solitude of his garage is what the Australian Jeff has invested to give life to his 911 2.7 RS replica. He sums it up in just four minutes in this Video ...

MY CAR, MY WORKSHOP, MY PASSION

We assume that something similar to that is what Jeff must have had to say more than once to justify all this effort in the face of some incredulous opinion. Anyway, sure that every good fan of the classic motor can understand this man: With a small but complete arsenal of tools in his garage, Jeff has managed to reinterpret his 911 into "The car of your dreams".

We have said well: reinterpret. And it is that, rather than being faced with a restoration, we are once again probably facing a “restomod” that includes modern elements. Although the image that is fixed on our retina is that of a brand new 911 RS 2.7 from '73, something adulterated ... actually, as often happens, all part of a somewhat more demure post-911 73.

RESTOMOD: GIVING IT THE LOOK OF A RS '73.

The truth is that that term comes out more and more. But… Isn't it understandable that, once we have restored our car, we want to modify it to make it more like our dream car? From the looks of it, Jeff's is the '911 73 RS. Surely one of the most legendary 911s; for many ... the most. A true street-clad race car powered by a six-cylinder boxer that catapults this sports car to a great rate of appreciation.

After 18 months of work the result is spectacular. Bodywork ... seats ... mechanics ... all worked in a completely handmade and autonomous way in the garage of your own home. And beware, the engine still needs to be mounted! Which is still on the workbench, out of place. The moment when Jeff first hears the sound of this 911 roaring back into place will be especially exciting. Anyway, these passions -and dedications- are what a classic can generate ... 😉

Lastly, the reader should know that we have a homeland version of Jeff on the Petrol Head Garage team. Do not stop following your first restoration (they are ready for the second)!

Through the news from La Escudería, we will travel the winding roads of Maranello listening to the roar of the Italian V12; We will travel Route66 in search of the power of the great American engines; we will get lost in the narrow English lanes tracking the elegance of their sports cars; We will speed up the braking in the curves of the Monte Carlo Rally and we will even get dusty in a garage while rescuing lost jewels.
