Porsche 964 Turbo: The Last Samurai

Renaissance. At the wheel of the 964 Turbo

It was a sunny morning in March and 965, even without the exhaust mounted, was beginning to roar. Its metallic sound, rough, round, with a somewhat high idle that we should correct. The smile appeared slightly at the corner of my father's lips, while more than one of us did not see the moment to put ourselves at the controls of the ship.

It was necessary to start shooting very calmly so that the new "organs" were assimilated

A couple of weeks later the car came down from the elevator to run a tank between 1500-2500 rpm in half-hour runs. All very conservative. First a walk around the block, with later adjustment of the brakes, which are new. The day after the ITV, 120 km at 2000-2500 rpm.

arrive weekend and all of us wanting to catch it, although none of the three of us recognize it, we look like children with a new toy. That reminds me of a friend's saying: "Over the years, only the price of your toys changes ..."

Saturday morning, tiroriOn WhatsUpp my father tells me that he is in Murcia with 911. What a cabrnxxx !, I think, but what the hell! Who better than him to do the filming. Later, during the week work will prevent me from touching it. The weekend comes and the rains too, ooohhhh.

Classic line, but much more dynamic and fluid

In the end I know that the only way I am going to get behind the wheel is to do this test, so I am staying with Javier Romagosa and Paco Carrión to help me with the photos and videos. We set an ordinary afternoon of a daily day in early April.

As if it's the first time I've driven it, I walk up to it. Inside my warehouse, with the artificial light and after a careful cleaning, the car shines especially. Her line leaves no one indifferent, look at the photos, you will not be able to stop admiring those curves over and over again. For me it is the most beautiful and balanced of the air-cooled. The line is still that of a classic 911, but now with the integrated bumpers it is much more dynamic and fluid. Its rear is broken by the huge spoiler, which serves to increase grip and to improve the cooling of the tight engine.

Frontally, those bulging eyes ... They remind me of a post by Pieldetoro about “batrachian” cars, but how beautiful this sapote is. If I were a prince, I would have become a princess years ago.

The interiors are of quality and withstand the passage of time well. The ergonomics are great

Inside everything in its place, immaculately finished, with almost 190.000 km behind it but everything seems really new, and that is something that speaks a lot and well of the quality of these Teutonic cars. Absolutely everything works for him, from the sunroof to the on-board computer, where we can enjoy seeing how the turbo pressure gauge reaches 0,7 bar - the truth is that even if it reached more we would not see it, since the software is in charge of stopping the indicator at 0,7 , XNUMX.

Power seats allow for precise adjustment. The habitability behind is undoubtedly very fair or insufficient for an adult, but suitable for children under 12 years of age.

On the dashboard we find all the controls with the traditional layout of the 911: Rpm indicator in the center, speedometer on the right, hour clock beyond, while the left side is reserved for pressures, temperatures, levels, etc. In the center of the dash is the classic air conditioning of the Porsche of the late eighties and early nineties. Next to him, archaic fog light controls, the cigarette lighter, and more.

As always, this 911 is a 2 + 2 ideal for children under 12 years of age.

Let's say ergonomically this 911 is superb, although it has certain elements that connect it directly with its predecessors and that far from making it look ugly, they give it a retro touch that seems even pretty to me.
