The Pirelli Calendar: 50 years of good taste

It has been a little over 50 years since the Pirelli Calendar I decided to completely revolutionize that old concept of a garage yearbook, of simple photos of girls showing grip, intended for male automotive fans. It's simple, if any of you have ever had one in your hands you will have noticed that art, style and good taste ooze everywhere in the famous almanac of the tire brand.

For those who still do not know, it is appropriate to say that the reason for the birth of the Pirelli Calendar in 1964 it was to be delivered only to VIP characters and important clients of the brand. However, the highly artistic results of the photographs and the final composition of the product quickly turned it into what it is now.

On the one hand, the legend of Pirelli Calendar it was forged thanks to the beauty icons of each era posing for the cameras. We talk about women like Gisele Bündchen, Heidi Klum, Alessandra Ambrosio (all of them Victoria's Secret angels), Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Penelope Cruz or even Sophia Loren and even the charismatic Antonia Dell'Atte (posing next to an also beautiful Lamborghini Countach), who agreed to be immortalized by some of the best photographers in the world.

And that is the other variable in the equation: Over the years the best personalities in the world of photography have been placed behind the lens, such as Annie Leibovitz, Peter Beard, Patrick Demarchelier, Richard Avedon or Vinoodh Matadin.

Taking advantage of the 50th anniversary of his birth, celebrated last year, la Editorial Taschen wanted to pay tribute to the five decades of stylish snapshots that have filled the pages of the Pirelli Calendar and, for this, he has published an exquisite book in a limited edition of 1.000 copies. On sale from September and at a price of 49,99 euros, it shows not only all the photographs that have made up the life of the almanac, but also other images taken from the shootings of the Behind The Scenes and until the volume of 1963 ... Which never saw the light of day because it was considered at the time Too cheeky.

Being a millionaire and buying all the cars in the world sounded difficult, so becoming a motorist journalist and driving them for free seemed more tangible ... As well as romantic. My greatest triumph has been being able to dedicate myself to cars from many points of view: journalism, organization of events and commercial training. I love my work life!
