Albert Ferreras yesterday launched a public petition on the civic platform Change.org in which it asks the Madrid City Council to allow once and for all the exemption of the Tax on Mechanical Traction Vehicles for vehicles with more than 25 years.
Its bases are solid and its arguments forceful, so we reproduce it below referring to the original and encouraging you to sign it.

Madrid City Council: Tax Exemption on Mechanical Traction Vehicles for vehicles older than 25 years
To try to preserve our historic car park from scrapping, we must continue taking steps towards the protection of vehicles (cars, motorcycles, tractors, trucks ...) that are more than 25 years old from their first registration and / or manufacturing date. . This is already being done in a good part of Spanish municipalities, and even in some bordering Madrid, but not in this city. Its automobile fleet of over 25 years is one of the most numerous and important in Spain, although in the global calculation of these vehicles it represents a minimal and not very representative percentage for municipal tax collection purposes.
Unfortunately, the discouragement of many owners when facing in times of crisis the payment of a Tax on Mechanical Traction Vehicles that is too expensive, in addition to the encouragement on the part of the Government to promote the famous PIVE plans aimed at revitalizing the sale of new vehicles at the expense of the Old junk has favored the fact that vehicles already considered classics disappear every day from Madrid.
For more than 15 years, the scrap yards in our municipality and province have been witnessing a growing drip of cars that, despite being in many cases in perfect condition, have been classified as scrap, something unthinkable in other Spanish towns, for not talk about other European countries, advocates of preserving their historical heritage as part of their global cultural legacy.
The latest letters recently received at the homes of owners with vehicles older than 10 years (it would be necessary to see how much this shipment has meant in economic cost), encouraging them to deregister their old cars, as well as one of the latest communications from the DGT alerting those same owners of the dire consequences of a traffic accident suffered with one of those vehicles, have ended up setting off all alarms to those of us who try to maintain a historical legacy, which has no other interest than leaving it as a cultural heritage to future generations.
All this documentation is sent by the Municipal Board or City Council to the Provincial Traffic Headquarters of that area. This Headquarters will be in charge of certifying this listing as a historic vehicle and will notify the City Council of the new change, so that the payments of the Tax on Mechanical Traction Vehicles will not be sent again in successive years.
In this way, the requested vehicle will be definitively exempt from the payment of the Tax on Mechanical Traction Vehicles, but of course, it has to continue to comply with the annual and mandatory commitments regarding ITV and corresponding insurance.
The historical heritage of vehicles belongs to everyone. Please help it to be enjoyed and admired by generations to come.
