Antonio Velasco Martinez, everyone's friend and archetype of a lover of the old vehicle, passed away on January 4, without those who were lucky enough to know him could give him the farewell he deserved, absorbed as we were with the Christmas celebrations.
To correct it, the Spanish Association of Sports Classics to which it belonged since its foundation and in which wonderful garage hosted its headquarters for many years, has ordered a mass for tomorrow Sunday, February 1, at 11:00 am at the Iglesia del Cristo del Pardo.
Antonio, despite his determination not to appear in the photos, was for decades and until his age prevented him recently one of the pillars of our hobby in the downtown area and perhaps the most endearing. Nobody better than him has made us see that kindness and generosity are the best tools with which to face life and also to ensure the future of our vehicles.
Do you think I'm exaggerating? My son Javier has just told me that he has engraved in his memory the ride that Antonio gave him in the Alfa-Romeo Giulietta that appears in the photo when he was only 5 years old; Today, 25 years later, he coordinates this magazine. Chance?
Dear Antonio: Thank you so much for the good times we shared and the good memories you leave us. Enjoy in peace together with Jaime Parser, Julio de Santiago, Fausto Saavedra and all the friends who preceded you on this journey. He is counting on me to go tomorrow to the Cristo del Pardo with my Lancia Gamma, even if blows fall on the nose ... and also that I will fight because your legacy lives on.
