Mini Immerses Us In The Gesta Del Montecarlo

Competition is the story of how certain stubborn people manage to break barriers, go further, achieve goals that previously seemed impossible. One of those stubborn was John Cooper. His competition was not only based on arriving first. No. His competition was based on going further than anyone with the potential, among others, of a small car. A small city car, so small and cute that no one would have imagined it winning the meandering Monte Carlo Rally.

John Newton Cooper always wanted to go faster than everyone else; perhaps that is why he served in the Royal Air Force during WWII However, and fortunately for lovers of moving on four wheels, Cooper founded a small sports car company with his father in the late 40s. Since then the words "Cooper" and "sportsmanship" are united in the imagination of the British motor. From his workshop in the small English town of Farnborough, This family of motor enthusiasts joined their surname to that of Indianapolis or Monte Carlo.

"JOHN, THIS WILL NEVER WORK"

In the video that Mini presents to us -with a precious vintage taste- we see a Cooper receiving the doubts of all: his collaborators in the workshop, skeptical journalists, an audience looking at his car with condescension or even contempt ... At this point in the career, we know that it is precisely there where the character of those who decide to go one step further than others is forged. Even if it is towards an abyss ...

Against all odds, Cooper's preparation of the legendary Mini was victorious in the 1964, 1965, 1967 and ... for many also in the 1966 Monte Carlo Rally, where the victory was withdrawn due to a controversial disqualification due to its headlights.

A simple and brilliant utility vehicle was discovered like a real bullet, with an agile and nervous demeanor; capable of sneaking through the inside of a horseshoe curve to make an almost impossible overtaking of much heavier rivals. Saving the distances, it reminds us a lot of that maxim of the boxer Muhammad Ali: "Fly like a butterfly, hit like a bee".

JOHN COOPER WORKS, THE THIRD GENERATION KEEPS ACCELERATING

Those epic years in Monte Carlo ended up establishing one of the most exciting pairs in the world of British sports cars: Mini and Cooper, Cooper and Mini. And judging by the vibrant roar of the new Mini John Cooper Works, the happy union continues to give us exciting news thanks to models like this one: developed hand in hand by the solvency of a MINI protected by the industrial potential of BMW, and the sporting passion of a John Cooper Works, founded by his son in 2000 and which, still absorbed by BMW, still has its headquarters in the city of Farnborough.

Recovering the essence of those years of victories against all hope, Mini presents his new creature in this video brimming with competition. And it is that, remember: for many, listening "This will never work", it is the best stimulus to make it possible.

Through the news from La Escudería, we will travel the winding roads of Maranello listening to the roar of the Italian V12; We will travel Route66 in search of the power of the great American engines; we will get lost in the narrow English lanes tracking the elegance of their sports cars; We will speed up the braking in the curves of the Monte Carlo Rally and we will even get dusty in a garage while rescuing lost jewels.
