Land Rover Series I no. 3: back to Spain

Land Rover has celebrated its 70th anniversary with the return to Spain of Series I no. 3: The oldest copy in the hands of a private collector...

If there's a car you can do almost anything you want to, it's the Land Rover. Hard as rocks, these intrepid Englishmen are capable of climbing the most unexpected path. This all-terrain vehicle exudes in its design the practicality acquired by the British during decades of colonial exploration. An experience at the service of small agricultural industries chosen as the main market of the model.

As you can imagine, with that customer in your sights ... The design of the Land Rover has no more charm than that offered by its rudeness. However, its mechanics speak for itself. Presented in 1948 The Land Rover soon gained a reputation for being unbreakable thanks to its Jeep-inspired chassis, its gearbox borrowed from the Rover P3 and the three 4-cylinder engines ranging from 1,6-liter gasoline to 2,0-liter diesel.

Just 70 years have passed, so Land Rover has celebrated its anniversary in style. An event in which Spain has been chosen as the setting for a very special event: the recreation of the presentation of the model in our country. Willing to prove the character of "Climbing goat"of the Land Rover, the place of Vallvidriera was chosen at Tibidabo. On the eroded roads of the area, the SUV showed its dynamic qualities. The same ones that it continues to keep on this anniversary 70 years later.

With millions of units sold from 1948 to 1983 It is estimated that 70% of them are still in full activity. Fact that, just by taking a short walk through a rural area, especially in Spain, you can attest by watching these hard-working Land Rovers go through impossible mudflats between olive trees. Some even successfully supported the weight of an elephant with the pretense of a pilot ...

Great to see how these classics continue to wage war, being able to be enjoyed in the environment for which they were created: the roads. All an accountability to the past as Land Rover faces its 70th anniversary with the electric challenge and the SUV bodies by flag. It is just a pity that they have taken so few photos!
