It is difficult to imagine the impression that the first military Jeep must have made. Its bodywork, its 4 × 4 drive system, its ease of assembly and repair, its incredible abilities on rough terrain, the speed of travel. All this was completely new at the end of the 30s of the last century.

So much so that the first Jeeps became one of the most useful tools that the North American army had to defeat the Nazis along with their allies. Furthermore, during the war, and at its end, the brand He had already realized that his concept would create a new type of vehicle in the civilian realm.

That is why he started working in the CJ versions, or Civilian Jeep, destined to be as useful in the American fields as its military variants had been in battle. From there, the English would copy the concept to light the Land-Rover, a European version of the multipurpose and a new all-wheel drive vehicle.

JEEP WILLYS CJ-2A: THE FIRST FOR THE MASSES

We introduce you to one of the first series CJs, a 2A, that you can quickly distinguish from its military versions by the narrower grille. Around 215.000 units were made between 1945 and 1949. Equipped with the famous engine Go devil With a 4-liter inline 2.2-cylinder gasoline engine and a 3-speed Borg-Warner gearbox, it became a faithful companion to North American farmers.
