I Spain Classic Rally Successfully Completed

TEXT AND PHOTOS: SPAIN CLASSIC RALLY

Fifty classic cars have made up the caravan of the I Spain Classic Rally, the greatest proof of regularity on asphalt of Europe and also the hardest. From May 5 to 12, the participating teams have crossed Spain on mountain roads, eight days, eight stages and 4.200 kilometers made up of mythical rally sections and fabulous landscapes.

The Spain Classic Rally is another success for Escudería Etcétera, organizer of the, so far, five editions of Spain Classic Raid, regularity test on gravel that has served as the basis for this very special rally.

The organization He has worked very hard so that the participants enjoyed the test and managed to reach the finish line in Madrid. As expected, the breakdowns made an appearance, such as punctures or a window that did not want to raise again. Even the Fiat Uno that finished the rally in second position was one of those affected, since its gasoline pump said enough, but the mechanics of the organization managed to allow this and many other teams to continue in the race and reach the Madrid finish line. .

Santander, Oviedo, Ponferrada, Ciudad Rodrigo, Trujillo, Cazorla, Moraira (Alicante), Cuenca and Madrid welcomed the departures and arrivals of the different stages of the test and saw up close the different participating cars, from impressive Volkswagen Karmann Guia, Datsun 260Z , Toyota Celica, Lancia Delta Integrale, Porsche 911 or BMW M3 E30, to the small Autobianchi A-112 Abarth and MINI Cooper or the popular Renault 4 or SEAT 127.

I Spain Classic Rally: Hard and demanding, but rewarding

Interestingly, the winning team the test did not exactly have one of the most powerful cars. Has been the little warrior Autobianchi A-112 Abarth driven by Juan Miguel Quintana and co-driven by José Luis Jiménez, who simply swept away winning in five of the eight stages. The team in second place was made up of the brothers Ricardo and Carlos Ferrón, at the wheel of a Fiat Uno Turbo. And the podium was completed with the Citroën AX of Gregorio Carrasco and Ángel de Fuentes.

Companionship, gastronomy, landscapes, many typical gift products and precious sections to enjoy driving in a test that, after listening to the opinions of the participants, has been very tough and demanding. The organization has worked for months to prepare the routes for this first edition and has already announced that for next year it will adapt the duration of the stages to make the test more accessible and offer fun to those who want to enjoy driving, but also to those who take advantage to practice a different form of tourism.
