To the Heritage Days

As always, time is spent on me to write about things that I consider important. It is the case of Heritage Days, to be held this weekend at national and European level.

And what are the Heritage Days? Unfortunately, this is the question that more than one fan, and more than two and three, will come to mind at this time. Because I would say that, until now, the meaning of these days has not transcended beyond those responsible for the around 300 clubs affiliated to the Spanish Federation of Old Vehicles (FEVA).

And what is FEVA? We are in the same as in the previous paragraph. Normally, in our country, individualistic by nature, it is difficult to spread an idea that, at least in theory, means union and, therefore, strength in the face of the opponents of the old vehicle. Indeed, there is a federation that, at the state level, brings together the clubs that want to be part of it.

Today, even with all its defects -which for some are many but for me there are not so many, and even less with the new directive-, FEVA is the only entity capable of defending our precious classic vehicles in the face of Public Administrations, reaching agreements with them so that our hobby is respected.

In addition, FEVA keeps us connected to international action through its membership of the International Federation of Antique Vehicles (FIVA), of which it is representative in Spain. All of this -FIVA, FEVA and affiliated clubs- forms a hierarchical framework in which the parties have broad autonomy but whose union is a show of strength facing those who, out of ignorance or ignorance, never out of ill will, wish to restrict our circulation.

Therefore, it is a pity that most fans are unaware of its existence, and that I write so late to encourage our readers to participate in its great annual convocation.

The Heritage Days

All the Heritage Days They normally take place on a weekend in September and are held within the framework of the European Heritage Days. These days, classic vehicles are celebrated through national rallies and meetings that share the same number provided by FEVA. And, above all, the same spirit by which these meetings are presented as rolling museums in which classic vehicles are objects of historical heritage.

Indeed, it is what they are and what we need society to understand in order not to limit, or even prohibit, their circulation.

All the Heritage Days are celebrated this weekend and they give us a unique opportunity to get our chest out doing what we usually do: go out for a walk with our classic @ or attend a concentration. With the incentive that, this time, we will do it even more eagerly to reaffirm ourselves in our position as defenders of the old vehicle.

Therefore, I encourage you not to stop going out this weekend and telling all those who can that our hobby is actually the preservation of an important piece of history. That we do it for free for the community. That we are few and that, as a general rule, we do not do more than, say, 2.000 kilometers a year. That is why it makes no sense to restrict our circulation, at least outside the cities. Society would lose its museum on wheels, which teaches so much and brings such good memories.

If you do not know where to go and you are from Madrid or surroundings, FEVA itself organize a meeting on Sunday in the Chanoe room, that has been trying for years to become a kind of temple of the classic vehicle. Without a doubt, it is worth knowing; For those who are interested, it is located in the City of the Image of Pozuelo de Alarcón, next to Colonia Jardín. We will be there.

Therefore, whether you have a bib or not, Get out this weekend. Also, if you are not affiliated with a club, think about doing it; There are very good times and, apart from enjoying the fans together, you get a valuable help when it comes to keeping our treasures. And if you are already a member or head of a club, consider the possibility of joining FEVA, if only to make it appear that we are well organized. Always remember, unity is strength.
