Fast forward: Torrejón monthly meeting

As we mentioned recently, in recent times and throughout our geography numerous concentrations of classic cars have proliferated; some on an annual basis, others monthly, and in some cases exclusively in the months when it is assumed that the weather will be good. Specifically in the Community of Madrid there is no weekend in which fans do not have a place to go with their vehicles to a meeting, even overlapping each other on certain occasions.

In the first place, it should be noted that in all cases the convenors and organizers carry out their non-profit activity; moreover, the occasion is usually used to make food collections and donations for soup kitchens and social aid centers. In addition, they promote tourism in the towns that host the meetings, with the consequent benefit that it generates for bars, restaurants and for the small markets that are organized in the shadow of the concentrations.

It is also true that not all the initiatives have come together; In some cases, everything was left to good intentions, as it was not possible to meet the expectations of the participants in the first appointments, both in number of units and in their quality and interest. And the fact is that the fans are very demanding: they go to a meeting, but if at first what they see does not convince them, it is difficult to get them to return.

Big absentees

Something that is powerfully striking in our country, and that radically differentiates us from our European neighbors, is the low participation in meetings used by owners of exclusive classics. It is not because there are none, as there are quite a few Spanish collectors with pieces that would not clash in Villa d'Este or Pebble Beach; the problem is that, except on rare occasions, they are never removed from their garages.

We do not know why this situation, but there is no doubt that it is a reality. In concentrations in the United Kingdom you can see a Rolls Royce Silver Ghost next to a modest Morris Minor, and in France a Bugatti Type 35 surrounded by Citroen 2CV, something unthinkable in Spain. Let everyone draw their own conclusions, but hopefully this pattern will change soon.

A good job

The Torrejón de Ardoz concentration is located in the fairgrounds of the Madrid municipality, in the parking lot next to the bullring. It is celebrated every first Sunday of the month between 10,00 am and 14,00 pm. The first call was carried out this year and in just a few months the concentration has been consolidated very worthily and with enough attractions to capture the attention of the fans.

The achievement has not been by chance, but thanks to the intense work of its organizers, who have been very active from the beginning, both in person during the meetings and on Facebook, continually looking for the focus of attention for all kinds of attendees, organizing raffles, competitions, musical performances, dance, etc. In addition, those who come in a classic car are given a voucher with which for a small price they can have an aperitif at "La Casa de Andalucía", the bar that is attached to the enclosure.

In Torrejón, we are not going to fool you, we find the same type of cars that usually go to these meetings; As we said before, surely we will not see a Ferrari Daytona or an Aston Martin DB5, but we will find a large number of classic, popular and sports cars, among which there will always be something that catches our attention and for what it has deserved. worth the visit. In addition, a pleasant time is spent surrounded by people wanting to have fun.

Together but not mixed

However, each of these periodic meetings has its own character, and Torrejón's is no exception. In the immense paved car park, where there is plenty of space, you can clearly distinguish two areas with well differentiated environments for motor racing fans. In one we find the typical vehicles of this type of meeting, and where the friends of the old cars feel more identified.

In the other, physically separated from the first, the protagonists are much more modern sports cars but they have legions of well-organized followers thanks to the groups that are created on social networks. They are the fans of the Renault Clio AND Megane RS; the Citroen AX GT and Saxo VTS; the Subaru Impreza WRX, the Ford Focus RS, the Honda Civic, and different models of this style, both European and Japanese.
