007's Esprit will become a real submarine

Throughout 50 years and 23 installments, James Bond films have starred great actors such as Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan or Daniel Craig, among others. From this film series we remember not only the great actors or the immortal character, but also the beautiful actresses, the imposing settings and, of course, the incredible cars.

Precisely, the Lotus Esprit that the famous secret agent drove in The spy who loved me (1977) is news today thanks to Elon Musk, CEO of the electric vehicle brand Tesla Motors.

And it is that, last September, during an auction held by RM Auctions, the American millionaire acquired this supposed underwater car built specifically for the film for approximately $ 850.000 or, what is the same, about 670.000 euros.

In the film, Agent 007 - this time played by Roger Moore - is seen apparently in trouble driving the English sports car. At one point in the chase, he takes advantage of a jetty to jump into the water, sinking to the bottom and using a suitable device installed on the Esprit that makes it submersible.

In reality, the scene was shot by a stuntman who needed a diving suit, since the car is not exactly waterproof. This has somewhat disappointed the new owner, who, using an electrical system, has decided to embark on the adventure of turning it into a real submarine.

Will it succeed? We will be very attentive ...
