Chance wanted it that way. The fifteenth simultaneous meeting of the Club Mercedes W123 Spain It was held on the same day that the famous program “Un, Dos, Tres” celebrated its 50th anniversary since its first broadcast, last Sunday, April 24. Simultaneous comes because this club traditionally organizes several concentrations in its different delegations throughout the Spanish geography. On this occasion, the delegation from the central area met in Plasencia, Cáceres, while in other parts of the Peninsula there were meetings in Ferrol, Granada and Lagostera.
I was lucky enough to attend, together with my namesake Javier Sánchez in his green 230 1981 CE coupé, the event that Columbiano Jiménez, delegate of the club in the center of the Peninsula, and who chose Plasencia as the place for the meeting.
The reason for this location was none other than an origin to the roots of the organizer, in addition to the comfortable motorway route to the destination and the charm of the most historic corners of the municipality, such as the Plaza Mayor where the cars were parked attendees to the event, and where they were quite a spectacle for the eyes of those present. Those who were lucky enough to travel along the Autovía de la Plata (A-66), were able to contemplate the spectacle that nature gave drivers that week, with the entire Sierra de Gredos covered in snow, a somewhat unusual sight for that time of the year.

The cars began to gather around 10 in the morning, and soon more than twenty vehicles and more than forty people gathered around the Mercedes W123, a model famous for its timeless bodywork and a symbol of unparalleled toughness. in the main square all versions of this car coincided, the sedan, the coupe and the station wagon, with the absence of the elongated model. Also here we must praise the club and its members for the originality and state of conservation of the cars, a benchmark to follow. Once together and with the cars already parked, a guided tour of the most historic and charming corners of the city began.
After the tour, and a brief moment of free time around the city that the attendees took advantage of to have a drink in one of the many terraces in the center of the municipality, the exquisite meal took place in the Spanish bar, located in the Plaza Mayor itself. It was there that the Councilor for Transport of the municipality and the President of the Plasencia Classics Club They received the attendees, a gesture that the club thanked with some commemorative diplomas of the event.

Already at the desktop, the organizers had one last surprise for those registered. A raffle for various prizes, including bottles of wine and Iberian sausages. Finally, almost all attendees won a prize from this draw, which was added to a bag with different gifts, including a custom-made sun visor for the W123 with the production figures for each of the model's versions. And what all the attendees took with them was a very pleasant and enriching experience that was accompanied by a full spring day, and that means that many of the members and friends of the Club are already counting down the days for the next meeting of the club in Gijón.
