Yesterday we received the sad news of the death of Mr. Demetrio Gómez Planche (1922-2017), promoter of the Salamanca Automotive History Museum, if memory serves us, the only public museum dedicated to the centenary adventure of the automobile in Spain.
Demetrio Gomez Planche, died at an advanced age, he was one of the great figures of the first-batch hobby of vintage vehicles. For decades it has been actively promoting the automobile as an asset of cultural interest and national historical heritage.
A collector of mainly pre-war classics, he fought for many years so that public administrations understand the cultural value of the automotive industry and the need to preserve it to display its history before the Spanish population.
From the foundation that bears their surnames and with their own vehicles, they created a museum that has been operating since 2002 and is currently in good health. Permanent and temporary exhibition and activities such as a documentation center and a cataloging laboratory confirm this.
From 'The Escudería' We want to say goodbye to Mr. Demetrio Gómez Planche and convey our condolences to his family. D.E.P
