Last Saturday, October 18, the «IV International Meeting 2014 Auto Clásicos San Agustín del Guadalix» took place. It is a large annual concentration of classic cars and motorcycles that is held next to the town's municipal swimming pool, on Calle Cataluña, about 35 kilometers from Madrid.

Thanks to the great work carried out by the organization, the meeting has grown so much during its four years of existence that the space has become too small. In addition to the main avenue, this year the adjacent streets were fitted out, which were also filled with cars; there came a time when there was no more room and a small queue was made for the organizers to find a space to be able to locate everyone.

Although prior registration was requested to attend the event, it was not essential to do so, and everyone who came in their classic vehicle had access to the meeting area. Admission was free, only a donation in kind was requested, a kilo of food that would go to a soup kitchen.

A good excuse

Fortunately, this type of weekend rallies are proliferating in the community of Madrid, either annually, like this one, or monthly, as in Navacerrada, Torrejón de Ardoz, Brunete, Alcalá de Henares, Villaviciosa or Navalcarnero. In truth, it is a wonderful pretext for all of us who have a classic vehicle to get it out of the garage more often and in a relatively safe way.

When we go out with our beloved car or motorcycle -or truck or bus, although that is already more unusual- to eat, have a beer, or simply to take a walk and chat with other fans, it is not the same to have to park it on any street or parking next to current cars than to do it among other classics whose owners know how to value and respect this type of heritage.

I do not know if it will be because of that horrible law of a certain Murphy, or simply because of bad luck, but I am absolutely convinced that parked classics attract the clumsy, clueless and irresponsible; And on many, many occasions, when we go home, we find ourselves with the unpleasant surprise of discovering a new scratch, a detached bumper, or the pieces of glass or plastic from one of the optics scattered on the floor. Come on, that one feels calmer in one stay of classics than in the Ikea parking lot.

Playful atmosphere

Returning to the concentration, we must highlight the festive nature of the event; It was not just a meeting of "geeks" talking about technical issues, there were also many people and a lot of children wanting to have fun. Some participants, especially those who came with American cars, were dressed in period in tune with their mounts.

In the pool car park, a catering tent (for stomachs, not cars), some shops and a castle with an inflatable slide were set up. Around 13,00:XNUMX p.m., an excursion was prepared through the main streets of San Agustín, escorted by a Local Police vehicle so that all the inhabitants could contemplate such illustrious visitors.

A bit of everything

I estimate that in total they passed through the red carpet that received the attendees more than three hundred vehicles of all times and origins. Sports cars, convertibles, SUVs, American haigas ...

Some cars from the 29s stood out among others, such as a XNUMX Whippet Overland and a Ford A Model Roadster. There was another Ford, also type A, but in this case Tudor and with a very striking "rat look".

With classic shapes came a pair of Citroen 11s in extraordinary condition. Continuing with the double chevron brand, we could see quite a few of its models: the indestructible 2 CV, Dyane 6, Visa, DS, GS and a gigantic CX with a break or estate body.

Representatives of the Spanish brand Seat, of course, there were many copies. The 600, 124, 124 Sport, 850 or 127 could not be absent. In addition, a beautiful 132 1800 from the first series came, a model that is increasingly difficult to find. There was also an exquisite unit restored to detail from the Selex ST3 single-seater which premiered in the Formula 1430 promoted by Seat.

The Americans

Apart from a lot of popular classics, such as the ones we have mentioned and many more from other brands that are usually common, the representation of American cars stood out, with sports such as Chevrolet Corvette of several generations, Ford Mustang or an impressive Cadillac Eldorado that does not it lacked detail, with its Elvis music, its figurine on the dashboard, the dice of Las Vegas and a tray with Coca Cola and hamburger. He was accompanied by a Pontiac Grand Ville, a model with which he shares a platform.

A rare vehicle called powerfully, a CMC (Classic Motor Carriages) Classic Tiffany, based on a Mercury Cougar from the eighties and dressed in a peculiar body with baroque lines. Another car that captured everyone's attention was an impressive '58 Lincoln Capri painted in bubblegum pink, to match its interior and its driver.

And without a doubt, one of the classics that most aroused the interest of the little ones ... well ... and the older ones, was the most famous Pontiac Trans Am on the small screen, "The Fantastic Car", a replica with its interior crammed with buttons and little screens in which fragments of the series could be heard.

Lancia, Land-Rover and more

They were present at the meeting a small representation of two clubs. On the one hand the Lancia Club, with some models of the desired Delta Integrale, a Dedra, a Beta HPE made by Seat in the late seventies, a Flavia 2000 Coupé, which arrived with a slight heater and a beautiful Fulvia Coupé HF .

On the other hand, the Land Rover Club, with which a unit made in the United Kingdom attended before Santana Motor reached an agreement with the English brand for the production in our country of the popular all-terrain vehicle. From this period there were several representatives of different series, sizes and bodies, including a military LR Ligero.

Of the so-called Youngtimers, cars made in the eighties and nineties, there was a legion: Jaguar XK, BMW M3, Audi Quattro, Escort RS Cosworth, Volkswagen Golf GTI ...

Finally, it caught our attention a very difficult car to see currently Spain: a unit of the Fiat 130 Coupé, with its beautiful straight-lined Pininfarina design that houses a V6 engine. Its expensive maintenance, a consequence of its delicate mechanics of Ferrari origin, and its bad reputation, have contributed to the fact that very few units have survived.

It was undoubtedly a concentration worth going to, fun and with enough incentives for those of us who enjoy watching classics. Next year we will not miss it.
