A curious 'Frankenstein' to the American

Whenever you go to a fair or concentration of classics, a question arises about this or that model. Strange cars with a very short production, customizations that are quite far from the original lines, sometimes even prototypes barely seen in sunlight ...

The automotive industry has created machines that only the most seasoned hobbyists can recognize the first time.

In fact, if you are a follower of our magazine you will have noticed that two of our latest news have gone in that direction: the two Corvette designed by Duntov behind the back of the company -with nocturnal and treacherousness in the Chevrolet facilities-, which are an extraordinary rarity in the history of this popular model and ... The case of Fiberfab Jamaica, showing how a 1960 MG A can become unrecognizable.

In short, as you can see, creativity and passion can reach unsuspected limits, hiding models that, in the factory state, we would all classify first. Something like this is what happened recently in  Reddit when the photographs of a mysterious sports car treasured in a warehouse. Although from a distance it may seem something similar to a Pontiac or a Corvette ... The question is once again obvious: what the hell is this?

PLAYING CAT AND MOUSE WITH FRANKENSTEIN

From the appearance of the photographs, the rumors began to spread: A kind of game of “cat and mouse”Where a multitude of users gave ideas, recognized parts of other cars, contradicted each other and answered in a dialectic to find the identity of this curious unit. We do not know what you are thinking, but if we are honest we have spent a few minutes trying to guess, at least, the basis of such a bizarre creation.

Huge mistake! We are facing a unique creature, a 1/1 handcrafted by some motor enthusiast. Someone we imagine as Dr. Victor Frankenstein, joining diaparous pieces to build a new being to whom an oil impulse gives life to the hallucinatory cry of live, live! And it is that, even in the fact of not having a name, this car looks like the monster in the story: there is no brand on the body that denotes a trade name.

If you see the general line ... You think it is a pre-series of the Corvette C4. One of those unique mid-engined units used by GM in development. In fact it seems that the door panels come from this model. However ... The rear leads you to think that it is a Pontiac, since the drivers are probably taken from a Fiero. Ok, umh ... What if we are facing a Honda NSX? After all, the rear window has all the earmarks of having come from the Rising Sun.

Come on, like the heart of a car is the engine… Let's take a look through the glass. The first thing that strikes us is that it is in a central position. However, although the shape looks like a Corvette, the valve cover Mickey Thompson it misleads us. The name of this mythical pilot, victim in 1988 of a crime still unsolved, only adds more mystery.

WHO WILL DR. FRANKENSTEIN BE?

By now you probably have 12 tabs open on your computer to try to solve the riddle. But no, really, rest ... We have already done it for you and it seems that, as far as possible, we have found the key point. Which? Well, the creator of the creature. A father who, to add yet more inri to all this, already has 90 years and a fragile memory incapable to offer details of your stem.

And boy, have you noticed that the car is in some kind of caged warehouse? This is where it ended up after entering the home for the elderly of its owner. Wouldn't it be wonderful if that man regained his memory for a time and realized what, surely, has been an adventure of years through auto parts stores and hours of work at home to assemble a new car?

According to what some fans like the porschista Derek Whitacre They have been able to affirm -from what they know of some concentrations where the car appeared briefly years ago- this racing car is based on the chassis of a 1969 Corvette to which parts of a multitude of sports cars have been added, including the windshield of a Lamborghini.

As we said, do not make an effort to know which model it is because what you have in the photos is a unique creation. A wonderful monster -we do not know if approved- who we would love to take the glove.

What do you think?
