Would you buy this rusty Jaguar with a V8 engine?

The rust knocks on our door again as we finish putting together another of the moving videos of the BMW centenary (don't forget to take a look at the report we did of a BMW 2000CS, that you will like). In this case there is even some unintended connection, since this rusty Jaguar Xk120 FHC for sale on e-bay inspired its lines by the mythical pre-war BMW 328.

El discovery that you can see comes from the United States, where much of the production of sports cars Englishmen in the postwar period of World War II. Those machines, together with their Italian, French and German companions, taught the Americans what a European-style sports car was, austere but tremendously effective.

An XK 120 with a V8 engine

El Jaguar XK120 It was presented in 1948 and was the consecration of the feline brand, which was previously considered a kind of upstart. Sir William Lyons and his team of engineers gave life to a car with an old-fashioned structure but with a legendary engine that, coupled with disc brakes and other technological innovations, brought them victory at Le Mans in 1951 and 1953. Then came the victories from 1955 to 1957 at the wheel of the D Type, but that is another story.

So the mechanics, and the aesthetics, are the strengths of the beast ... Well, in this Jaguar XK120 missing the first, since the XK engine has been replaced by a Ford V8. On the other hand, it is not the version of the model par excellence, the roadster, but the Flat Head Coupe or FHC, which shares its distinguished British designation along with the convertible or Drop Head Coupe.

What would you do with it?

However, just as count on Jalopnik and if it really is recoverable, the price is still a bargain: $ 13.000? It has work, of course, but if the importance of the model does not justify the restoration, there is always the added motivation that will undoubtedly provide future buyers which, once finished, can be sold for around 150.000 euros.

In any case, I "I would throw myself into the mountains" simply by hobby, that an XK120 well deserves it; and others "Infected" they think the same because, 6 hours after the auction ends, the bid continues to rise. What do you think? Would you buy? Comment below!

* Editor's note: In the end the lot was awarded at around $ 25.000, typical e-bay last minute bids. It is not the same but it would still be a good price.

What do you think?
