This year Audi Tradition -Audi's history division- will participate in more than 20 events in Germany and other countries, and at the same time will take the opportunity to commemorate a couple of anniversaries. One of them corresponds to the victory of Bernd rosemeyer in the World Grand Prix Championship at the wheel of a Auto Union Type C exactly 80 years ago.
Designed by Ferdinand Porsche In the heat of money from the Nazi government, it is one of the most legendary GP cars of all time. Technologically advanced in 20 years with respect to other racing cars, the Auto Union Type C it mounted a 16-cylinder V-engine in a central position; Its 6-liter supercharged, up to 600 HP for 750 kilos of weight and pilots of the stature of Nuvolari, Varzi, Stuck or the aforementioned Rosemeyer made it fly above 300 kilometers per hour.
German rule during the 30s was overwhelming. The Type C Auto Union I only found a rival in other silver arrows, the racing Mercedes of the time that also benefited from National Socialist investments in international prestige. At a distance was the sensational Alfa Romeo P3, in comparison underfunded.
Audi Tradition take the official replica from this racing car to Festival of Speed Goodwood (June 23-26) in England and at Classic Days Show at Dyck Castle, near Düsseldorf (5-7 August). The Auto Union Type C will also be on the historic climb Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb, England (July 16-17).
It is certainly a good excuse to get away.
