The dinosaur 206/246 marked a change of course for Ferrari, which in the late 60s sought to create a parallel brand low cost or, at least, a line of models somewhat less expensive than the main one. The new berlineta equipped the V6 designed by the legendary Vittorio Jano and Ferrari's late son, Alfredino, who also gave name to the white brand of Il Commendatore.
This mechanism was placed in a central position, as the times dictated, and the graceful lines of the dino, drawn by Pininfarina, defined the V8 models to come. In addition, they decisively influenced the joint project that Ferrari had with Fiat and its Dinos; the Italian giant was then about to buy the prancing horse and he also wanted to attack the sports car market from below.
Nor the brand Dino Not even the great performance cars of Fiat had continuity in time. Regarding the first, which is the one that concerns us today, it still looked too much like Ferrari and that is why it ended up adopting its insignia and fattening two cylinders to give rise to the new V8 cars, which continue to be marketed today at a price more economical than its siblings V12.
Artcurial will auction the prototype that we show you in the header photo during the next show Retromóbile de Paris, and that is none other than the one that has fueled the aesthetics of Maranello V8 sports cars for decades.
The price of Dino 206P Berlinette Speciale is predicted astronomical, more if we take into account that it has been preserved by the Le Mans museum since 1967 ...
Finally, we leave you a few more photos clicking here, that the auction house has given us a perhaps very flattering image 😉
