And the industrial vehicles?

Dear fellow fans,

In my opinion, the role played by our country in the world history of the automotive industry is more important in the field of industrial vehicles, than in any other. The most important Spanish companies in the sector that founded their development on their own technology (La Hispano-Suiza, Pegaso, Barreiros) had this as their main activity; Birkigt and Ricart devoted much of their genius to the design of trucks, "travelers" and other commercial vehicles.

I also believe that the manufacture of industrial vehicles has been the most relevant contribution of this industry to the history of our country: Road traffic of people and goods (the majority in a country with complicated terrain like ours) fell from the beginning and as a priority on those national vehicles, which proved for countless years to be the best prepared to face the unique harshness of our roads. .

Despite what has been said and the growing Hispanic fondness for the conservation of vehicles from other times, THE SPANISH PARK OF HISTORICAL INDUSTRIAL VEHICLES IS IN SERIOUS DANGER. The causes of this paradox are various and, unfortunately, fully justify this situation: the requirement of a large amount of space, very expensive insurance (designed for totally different risks), the need for a special and minority driving license, make the restoration and maintenance of one of these vehicles in a test of self-denial (rather than hobby) that very few fans dare to give. This small number entails other important drawbacks, such as the lack of clubs (and, therefore, the understanding and support that these organizations provide) and the very little attention that historic vehicles of this type receive from the specialized press. .

BETWEEN ALL OF US, WE MUST DO WHAT WE CAN TO REVERSE THIS SITUATION! AND SOON! Much has already been lost, but if the trend does not change rapidly and radically, THERE WILL BE NOTHING LEFT TO KEEP in this important area.

For our part, we now list the measures that we have devised to contribute to this effort:

buspegasus

1º- SPECIAL INSURANCE FOR HISTORIC INDUSTRIAL VEHICLES

2º- STUDY AND PROMOTE THE CREATION OF ADEQUATE AND AFFORDABLE SPACES TO HOST THESE «GIANTS»

It is one thing to sacrifice part of the home garage or the garage of a rural house to house a tractor or an old van, and quite another to find permanent parking for a 50-seater coach or a tank truck.

All major cities have public and private infrastructures in which a "hole" could perhaps be reserved to preserve our industrial history.

At the moment it is just an idea, but together we can give it shape. I would appreciate it if any of you have any responsibility or contacts in the public / private transport sector, you can send us your opinion on this idea.

3º- SUPPORT AND DISSEMINATE THE EXISTENCE OF CLUBS, ENTITIES AND PEOPLE WILLING TO SUPPORT THE FANS WHO DARE TO RESTORE AN INDUSTRIAL VEHICLE.

We have to try to mitigate the isolation and feeling of incomprehension and lack of support in which many potential fans of these vehicles move (An environment very similar to the one that the first fans of the classics suffered in the early seventies). This is not a conducive environment for the initiatives required by these vehicles to flourish.

To this end, we have created a new section in the Club List dedicated to this type of vehicle and in which, exceptionally, we will also echo ALL the initiatives aimed at making the conservation of these giants more bearable (whether or not they come from clubs and associations).

4th- INVITE EVERYONE TO COLLABORATE IN THIS URGENT TASK.

(Among other things, do not forget to notify us of any vehicle that may be looking for a "father")

A cordial greeting,

Sergio Romagosa designed in 1988 the first special Spanish insurance for classic and vintage vehicles. Likewise, in 1996 he founded "La Escudería", the first Hispanic portal for lovers of historic vehicles. He made his hobby his profession, and in his garage we can find from a Lancia Gamma Coupé to a Morgan Three Wheeler. A recalcitrant optimist, for him our precious pots are a cultural heritage that must be preserved and defended as such.
