An abandoned factory in Arese

The construction between 1960 and 1963 of the Alfa-Romeo factory in Arese, province of Milan, meant the consolidation of the brand after World War II. Before the conflict Alfa-romeo designed and built the best cars sports and luxury for the Italian high bourgeoisie, in addition to its famous GP racing cars; but later the market turned towards the consumer society and the old builder was found out of the game.

The Giulietta was launched in 1954 and it was then that Alfa found its way; grew again and, as a result of this growth, in 1960 it moved its assembly lines from the old Portello factory to the brand new facilities in Arese, where he would savor success until the mid-80s.

Legendary models such as the Giulias or the Alfettas were assembled there, as well as the 90, 75, 164 or GTV, among others. Until the purchase of Fiat in 1986, the factory was fully operational and even in 1990 the Alfa-Romeo Style Center was installed there; unfortunately, since then the Arese factory It has been losing steam until it has become an abandoned colossus.

Fiat took production to other plants in the group and forgot this symbol of independence from what was previously known as the Portello brand (luckily the same did not happen with the brand museum!). It did not take long for the first demolitions to occur while the local authorities studied how to reconvert those ruins ...

A reader has not been able to avoid sneaking into what remains of the Alfa-Romeo factory in Arese to photograph the corpse of XNUMXth century industry. Rest in peace.
