The roar of the Audi Quattro

Today, without being exhaustive, we leave you a ADIEX about the legendary Audi Quattro. Manufactured between 1980 and 1991, the Quattro revolutionized the world of rallying and was the first passenger car to successfully combine all-wheel drive with turbocharged mechanics.

Precisely, it is its turbo engine of just over 2 liters and 5 cylinders that marks the evolution of the model in its street version: During the 80s the fearsome coupe of the brand of the rings - derived from the 80 saloon - was changing its cubic capacity from 2.144 cc to 2.226; from 10 valves to 20; from 200 to 220 hp. Flour from another sack was the late Sport Quattro, of whose shortened battle and 300 CV we will speak soon.

Series we have then we have three, the WR, MB and RR, fundamentally according to its mechanics. The aesthetic changes also accompanied the evolution of the model, both in the exterior and in the interior and always seeking to offer an increasingly powerful and comfortable product. The lights, first four and then two; the grille, the center console, the analog and then digital clocks; leather coverings ...

Audi Quattro, a classic with black leg

All the changes did nothing more than fine tune a racing machine that was from the start practically perfect. On its way to one of the definitive Group B, the Audi Quattro and drivers of the stature of Michelle Mouton, Hannu Mikkola, Stig Blomqvist and Walter Röhrl gave the German brand the World Rally Championship in 1981 and 1984. The Racing Quattro It had two evolutions, the A1 and A2, which brought the potential of the mechanics from 300 to 350 hp.

And then, in 1984, came the Sport Quattro. It was a definitive version of shortened battle and one of the icons of the dangerous category of Group B of rallies, the one that had to be banned due to the multiple accidents derived from the enormous turbocharged power of the racing cars. For example, the Audi proposal delivered between 450 and 510 hp; covered with a carbon-kevlar bodywork, surely you will have no problem distinguishing it in the ADIEX below.

The Sport Quattro evolved in 1985 to the S1 E2 variant, which it won at Pikes Peak in the same year and in 1987. In total, Audi put around 230 Sport Quattro on the road to homologate the model for competition; of the Quattro 'normal' made about 11.500. A mythical and very appetizing classic today that we leave you in its sauce;).
