Yesterday the Official State Gazette (BOE) published the Royal Decree 920/2017, by which it will be regulated from May 20 of 2018 the technical inspection of vehicles (ITV). The purpose of this royal decree is to transpose Directive 2014/45 / EU of the European Parliament and of the Council into the Spanish legal system on periodic technical inspections of motor vehicles and their trailers. By means of this Directive 2009/40 / CE is repealed and the Royal Decrees 2042/1994 and 224/2008 are recast, by which the ITV was regulated until now.
From page 18 the modifications that it supposes for the Regulation of Historical Vehicles, approved by Royal Decree 1247/1995 are published. The most striking of them all (you can consult the rest of the law clicking here) is the one related to the increase in the seniority requirement for the granting of the historical registration to a certain classic vehicle what happens to be 30 years old from its manufacture or first registration.
It's something we've been waiting for for a long time: As much as it hurts, the International Federation of Antique Vehicles (FIVA) defines an antique vehicle as one that is at least 30 years old and this is the accepted standard in the rest of Europe. Therefore, the modification of Spanish legislation in this regard was a matter of time. The owners of 'youngtimers' (I include myself) will have to continue pampering them without special concessions from the administration beyond the road tax discount in those municipalities that have granted it.
