23 Lamborghini Miura celebrate their 50th anniversary in Spain

Probably an event like this will never happen again: Nothing more and nothing less than 23 Lamborghini Miura from all over the world quietly gathered in Spain to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the world's first mid-engined supercar. Capable of exceeding 250km / h thanks to its V12 of almost 4 liters and 350 hp, the Miura was the definitive object of desire of the time, a colorful icon of the 1960s and 1970s longed for by oil sheiks, tycoons, stars of the world. pop, playboys and, of course, by motorsport enthusiasts.

As you all know, the Lamborghini insignia is a bull, and this is because Ferruccio Lamborghini was born just 100 years ago under the zodiac sign of Taurus. The tractor builder and challenger of The Commendator He released his masterpiece in 1966 and named it after a fearsome breed of bull bred by the Miura, an Andalusian family who forgot to ask permission. This would motivate the famous meeting between Ferruccio Lamborghini and Mr. Eduardo Miura, which we will talk about later.

Things before they were done in another way: If you were a rich Italian agricultural industrialist and you had to apologize and ask for the blessing of an offended person, you would travel thousands of kilometers; If you argued with Enzo Ferrari because you disliked some things about his cars and you received a bad response, you would compete with him, and above all with his own team. The story of the birth of Lamborghini and therefore the Miura is exciting, let's see what its latest chapter is ...

Andalusia, spiritual home of the Lamborghini Miura

Organized by KIDSTON SA together with the Italian company specialized in this type of event 2FAST4YOU -with Franco Makhno at the helm- in mid-October, and after many months of planning, the 50th anniversary meeting of the Lamborghini Miura in Spain aimed to collect a record number of Italian supercars and return them to their spiritual home in Andalusia.

Simon Kidston A benchmark in the classic car industry worldwide and owner of a Miura for a long time, he told us that "This event has been a unique opportunity for some tremendously lucky owners who have been able to enjoy their cars on exceptional roads but who also wanted to write a new chapter in the history of the legendary model."

Back home, 50 years later

I was following the caravan of beauties drawn by Marcello Gandini for two days and I was amazed at the beauty of the roads on which we drive. Imagine being overtaken by several Lamborghini Miuras on an undulating back road ... the creeps! In addition, I was able to verify how satisfied the participants were with the event; even a Japanese owner who couldn't bring his racing car and had to follow the procession by taxi.

The highlight of this 50th anniversary was the visit to the Miura ranch in Zahariche, where thoroughbred cattle have been growing since 1842. Thus, the visit that Ferruccio Lamborghini himself made in the autumn of 1968 to request a late license from Don Eduardo Miura, patron of the famous cattle ranch, was resumed. Almost 50 years later, his descendants, Don Antonio and Don Eduardo Jr., were walked by the test pilot of the brand Valentino Balboni and marveled that the exotic supercar bore their surname.

All the drivers were portrayed at the entrance of the farm, emulating the mythical photo of Lamborghini with Eduardo Miura in the same place. Many of them they got excited when posing, and it was no wonder.

The Miura goes on

Among the 23 cars that participated in the event were an impressive and very rare P400 SVJ from 1972, built for the Haitian hotelier Alberto Silvero; a 400 P1970 S first sold to Edmondo Lamborghini, Ferruccio's brother; and finally the oldest and most modern Miura that exist. These very special sports cars posed together on the Zahariche farm with the bulls of the livestock in the background, a memorable moment.

The history of the Miura keep going. Simon Kidston and his team have created a online registration to make 'inventory' of the model and are also in the final stages of publishing a definitive book on the car. The latter will be released in early 2017 and will include interviews with key characters - some sadly deceased -, a full history of the different variants, stunning studio photos, and never-before-released footage. We'll be alert.
