As usual, the last weekend of September was the Classics Rally of Durango. It was his edition number 16 And, as a novelty, the rally took on a special feeling since it remembered José María del Cid Turienzo, better known as Maykel, director of the event in previous editions and great animator of this type of event in the Basque Country who died in November 2015 .
Almost fifty participants local, state (Canary Islands, Valencia, Catalonia, Madrid, Cantabria ...) and even foreigners signed up with their Ferrari, Porsche, Lancia, BMW, Audi, Opel, Seat and Peugeot among others. Among the models stood out a Ferrari 308, a Ford RS 2000, a Porsche 911 SC, BMWs 635 CSI and 2002 ... and the Innocenti Mini Cooper 1300 that suffered a minor accident in the first section of the test.
Durango Rally, FEVA regularity
This is a FEVA regularity rally, which is held at average speeds of less than 50 kilometers per hour and on roads open to traffic and in which the team that is closest to the theoretical hours of passing through the secret points of the city is victorious. control selected by the organization.
It is a 473 kilometer test, with 345 kilometers timed in 15 different stages. In the words of its organizers this rally "Due to its characteristics and varied participation, it can be considered one of the best in the Spanish state."
Winners of a secret tour
The route is kept secret until the beginning of the same, although the route maps are published to facilitate the information to the spectators on the website of the event on Friday afternoon.
The Escudería "Classics Durango", organizer, establishes different prizes and trophies depending on the different categories of vehicle, ages of participants, etc.
Regarding this latest edition they were winners the BMW 323i driven by Kike Álvarez and co-driven by Jorge Vila del Rosario, followed by José Luis Madrazo and Jafet Santamarta's BMW 635 CSI. In third position was also the BMW 325ix of T. Foronda and Pilar Rodas.
Classics in support of Durango
